Summary Statement

This position provides technical laboratory support by preparing and analyzing samples and recording and reporting test results. This position will work with manure, pet food, feed, fertilizer, liming material, and frozen dessert sample types. This position will use Microsoft Excel, Sample Master LIMS, and instrument software to complete responsibilities. This position also organizes and disposes of samples and washes glassware to support the laboratory.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Prepares media, reagents and stains. Computes and measures quantity.

Ensures orderly and environmentally correct storage of media, reagents, supplies, samples and equipment.

Ensures technically correct cleaning, sterilization and solvent treatment of equipment.

Conducts laboratory tests and analyses.

Operates and maintains various laboratory equipment.

Requisitions, inspects and distributes laboratory supplies and equipment.

Records information on manual/computerized records, logs and related requests for analysis, shipping/transporting samples, ordering supplies/equipment, and status of water supply system.

Packs and ships, picks up or delivers supplies, samples and equipment.

May perform phlebotomy to obtain blood specimens for examination.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Laboratory Technician III

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

One year experience in conducting chemical or biological laboratory tests.

One year experience in using laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

One year experience in laboratory sample handling.

Six months experience in performing mathematical and statistical computations on laboratory test data.
