Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing production tasks and supporting the fabrication department. This role will work in tandem with other opticians to achieve department/company goals. Duties include cleaning, inspection, grinding, polishing, operating CNCs, blocking/deblocking.
Primary Responsibilities: Major include the following activities:
Perform quality inspections for incoming, in-process, and finished optics utilizing various optical, mechanical measuring devices/techniques and visual inspection techniques.
Perform cleaning of optics at various stages of the process
Perform production tasks in one or more of the following fabrication cells: Conventional grind/polish, Dicing/Shaping, Spindle Polish, CNC grind/polish, Aspheric Grind/Polish, or Centering
Complete product work IAW traveler and standard work instructions.
Ensure travelers, datasheets and all required documentation are filled out correctly.
Communicate safety and process concerns to supervisor/management.
Support other opticians and mentor optician trainees
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Skills
English is the primary communication language. Must be able to read and understand English
Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work as a team or alone when appropriate.
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Basic understanding in surface quality, handling optics, and mechanical dimensional tools (eg. Micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, etc.)
Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel.
Familiar with ERP systems is desirable.
Education, experience, certifications
High School Diploma or GED
Prefer a self-driven, meticulous individual with strong math skills
1-5 years of optical fabrication experience
In lieu of years of experience, must be at least level 2 in two competency areas in the Fabrication Training Matrix
Associates degree with a math/science focus is desired.
Physical and mental demands
Prolonged periods of standing/walking within a localized area.
Must be able to lift 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds at times.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
This position is on site, no remote work option.
