Starting Salary Wage: $15.00/hour Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Shift/Workdays and Hours: 32–40 hours per week through August 2025. This position is intended for a specific project, which is expected to conclude in August, but could extend into the fall semester with a workload of 12-16 hours per week.

Summary/Objective

The purpose of the intern position is to gain experience and develop skills in areas such as urban design, architectural design, and digital illustration/modeling in the context of urban planning and provide a student with work experience outside of the classroom.

Essential Functions

Conducts architectural and site design work using 2D/3D modeling software, which may be augmented with hand drawing, photo editing software, etc.

Creates site specific and large-scale 3D models which can be animated for 3D video flythroughs.

Illustrates using a variety of methods, including digital and hand sketches, conceptualizations and ideas as they relate to area plans or site-specific communications.

Performs research and analysis related to best practice and architectural innovation based on goals of a specified project.

Visits sites and areas of interest to study and record existing conditions.

Researches, collects, compiles, records and summarizes technical data; assist higher level planning staff assemble documentation for projects and presentations.

Presents work and communicate ideas in a well-organized, comprehensive, and professional manner across a multitude of media.

Attends city and public meetings.

Provides general assistance with planning efforts as assigned.

Participates in a variety of special projects as assigned.

Other Duties

Understands and applies the principles and practices of municipal and regional planning and government.

Works cooperatively with other City employees, other government and private entities, and the general public.

Completes assignments and exhibits a desire to continually improve upon new and learned skills.

Participates in community engagement sessions to communicate concepts and ideas, as well as listen and report back on feedback gathered at meetings.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

Enrollment in a university curriculum for architecture, landscape architecture, or a related field.

Applicants must submit at least two samples of perspectives and/or aerial layouts that demonstrate their ability to produce original high-quality designs that are related to the work this role will be performing.

Preferred Education and Experience

Familiarity with GIS.

Demonstrated experience with 3D modeling software such as TwinMotion or similar.
