Description
This is a non-exempt position. This is a semi-skilled level job within the Stormwater Technician positions. An employee in this classification may perform semi-skilled manual work, which is performed alone or as part of a crew involving construction, repair and maintenance of drainage structures/systems and related areas.Employee will be required to perform heavy physical labor in all types of weather conditions, using a variety of tools and equipment. Under direct supervision of the Roads and Drainage Foreman.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Examples of Duties
Performs maintenance and repair tasks of the City's entire drainage system and properly disposes of collected materials.
Assists in drainage repairs and installs drain pipe where repairs are needed or new installation is required.
Operates heavy and light motor vehicles to transport personnel and supplies to worksite; operates heavy equipment at the work site.
Operates sweeping machine to keep roadways clear.
Collects and inputs data into the record keeping system.
Moves heavy materials and performs manual labor for extended periods of time under hot and humid conditions.
Performs related division work as required for this position.
This position does not have final procurement authority.
Sweep roadways using a sweeper machine.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of the practices and materials utilized in the installation and maintenance of a water, stormwater and wastewater utility system.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
Ability to read and interpret utility maps.
Ability to locate leaks, stoppages and malfunctions in stormwater lines.
Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to complete work assignments correctly.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
Ability to operate City vehicles in Stormwater Division (Sweeper, Vac-Truck, Dump Truck, Stake Body Truck, and One Ton Pick-Up Truck).
Ability to operate City equipment in Stormwater Division (Tractors, Backhoe, Front End Loader, hand tools or any other equipment related to repair or replacement of Stormwater conveyance systems).
Skill in the use of hand tools, gas saw, tamper, jackhammers and power and pneumatically driven tools.
Skill in the use of safe operation of equipment used in completing assigned tasks.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by two (2) years experience in drainage and roadway repairs and the operation of heavy equipment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.
Possession of a valid State of Florida Operators License with temporary CDL class "B" permit. Must attain a Florida CDL Class "B" Operators License with tanker endorsement within ninety (90) days of hire.
Must obtain within the probationary period and keep current Stormwater Operator Level 1 and 2 Certification.
Work Environment
This is a designated "Response" classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
