The City is currently in the process of implementing a new salary structure. Depending on the progress of this implementation, the salary offered to the selected candidate may be higher than the amount currently posted. However, the candidate will not be offered a salary lower than the posted amount for this position.

Duties

Primary

Is responsible for coordinating with other city departments to schedule all repairs to city assets and vehicles. Candidates will be the primary contact and liaison between the Fleet maintenance department and all other city departments for vehicle/equipment services.

Reports detailed explanations to other city departments on past, current, and future repairs needed on city vehicles/equipment to respective department’s heads.

Works with the Fleet shop foreperson to establish a “promised timeline” on vehicle/equipment services. Handles any additional calls or emails regarding promised timeline overages to ensure departments are updated on vehicle repair status.

Notifies shop foreperson of incoming services and assists shop foreperson in dispatching services and emergency repairs.

Greets city employees in a timely professional manner and obtains all necessary vehicle information at the time of vehicle drop-off.

Refers to vehicle/equipment service history, inspects vehicles/equipment and confers with Fleet maintenance director if additional repairs are needed.

Is responsible for the sale of surplus or obsolete city assets that have been properly declared surplus.

Required to be on call for emergency Fleet Maintenance situations during or after work hours Monday- Friday.

Reviews repair orders to ensure that work is completed, and any additional work performed has been noted. Closes Fleet repair orders as necessary.

Keeps monthly up to date preventative maintenance schedule for all city vehicles and equipment.

Ensures that vehicles on the Fleet maintenance lot are in the proper parking areas, locked, and the keys are correctly marked and put away.

Secondary

Assists Fleet Maintenance director with new vehicle/equipment orders for capital purchases.

Advises city employees on the proper care for vehicles/equipment, and the importance of maintaining vehicles/equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

Periodically assist Fleet Maintenance technicians with any necessary repairs or tests.

Assists Shop Foreperson in implementing quality control procedures to ensure repairs are performed correctly the first time.

Works with parts coordinator and shop foreperson to ensure hours, repair remarks, and parts are documented on all work orders.

Job Requirements

Associate degree (A.A.) in automotive technology or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or two years related experience and/or training in the automotive field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated ability to write routine reports, procedures, manuals, and correspondence.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Valid Driver's License CDL Class A or B, preferred

This position requires the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Incumbent required to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. This position interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Incumbent to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Incumbent will interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Incumbent must be able to lift 50 pounds and may be exposed to various chemicals used in an automotive repair facility.

Normal work hours will be 8am-3pm Monday-Friday with the ability to take after hours calls on an emergency basis.

Personal Work Relationships

This position works closely alongside the Fleet maintenance director, Shop foreperson, office manager, and inventory coordinator. Incumbent needs the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
