No Position Summary:
The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for the preparation of insurance claims and A/R follow-up of denials. Other duties include processing changes for patient insurance/demographics in order to bill clean/accurate insurance claims, communication with patients, patient families, insurance companies and other individuals related to insurance and/or self-pay services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Edits all UB and 1500 claim forms for billing
Files Insurance claims for payment
Works the billing work queues timely
Corrects and rebills claims as needed
Assist in pulling claims data for auditing purposes
Provide excellent customer service
Demonstrate professional behavior and interpersonal skills to reflect the mission and vision statement of SGH
Complies with HIPAA, Compliance, Infection Control and Universal Precaution guidelines along with the hospital and departmental safety guidelines
Perform other duties as assigned Skills:
Knowledgeable of claims submission processes for all major insurance carriers, intermediaries, Medicare and Medicaid
Efficient data entry skills, balancing figures, compilation of statistics and understanding of reconciliation processes
Excellent customer relations and oral/written communication skills
Effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff
Basic computer skills
Professional, friendly attitude
Working knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations
