About Universal Plastics

Universal Plastics specializes in plastic injection molding, including gas assist and structural foam, for customers mostly in the medical, laboratory and diagnostic markets. We supply high quality, large plastic parts with complex designs and high cosmetic requirements. We have presses ranging from 85T -1,500T. Most parts are gas assist, which was pioneered here in the 70's. This position is responsible for ensuring presses are running efficiently to meet production demands.

General Information:

This position will report to the General Manager, it's a full-time position primarily on day shift. Production is currently working 3-12s and an 8 hour day with 2 shifts.

Responsibilities of a Process Development Engineer

Manage and lead Processors; maximize production by increasing employees' productivity, reducing scrap, and improving overall performance.

Create cohesive workflows and procedures for all Processors.

Develop and optimize injection molding processes for new and existing products.

Establish and document process parameters to achieve consistent part quality and production efficiency.

Collaborate with Tooling Engineers to design, modify, and validate new and existing injection molds.

Collaborate with Quality on new part check-ins to meet criteria of print cosmetics.

Specify and procure injection molding machinery and auxiliary equipment

Work with Project Engineers to ensure manufacturability of plastic components during mold design and quotation.

Process troubleshooting of various types of injection molds, machines and resins to ensure efficient production of quality products.

Troubleshoot molding process issues (flash, short-shots, sinks, splay, etc.) for maximum efficiency and minimum scrap levels; Update process detail books as required.

Maintains a clean and orderly workstation.

Observes all safety regulations and practices.

Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by manager.

Stands, walks and uses hands for 8 to 12 hours per day

Candidate Requirements:

Plastics Engineering Degree or equivalent experience.

Knowledge and application of injection molding principles.

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skill.

Ability to work well under minimal supervision; possess strong self-motivational skills.

Excellent decision-making skills to ensure we meet production demands.

Must be effective and efficient while performing all tasks to ensure production needs are met.

Possess a flexible mindset as jobs and tasks change quickly.Company Description
