Primary Focus:
The Estimator’s role is essential to the success and growth of Metro Environmental Services and its proposals. They will be responsible for preparing construction estimates that focus on environmental and fuel facility related projects. They will rely heavily on their analytical abilities to review projects, create takeoffs, utilize subcontractors and suppliers, and collaborate with the MES team in order to produce an accurate and complete estimate. This role reports directly to the Chief Estimator and will serve as an essential member of the Estimating team.
Overall, they’ll be a key member of the Estimating team and be expected to work seamlessly within their team and cross-functional departments at MES. They will use their knowledge and understanding of current construction processes and methods, scheduling and pricing to deliver concise information to build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, architects, engineers, clients and team members. Leveraging technology to streamline their workflows and to simultaneously manage several projects is a consistent part of their strategy. What You’ll Be Responsible For:
Prepare and send accurate bid packages to subcontractors & vendors, following up as required to ensure full coverage on estimates for environmental and fuel facility related projects.
Create accurate takeoffs for all phases of construction using material costs and labor breakdowns after obtaining prices from vendors and subcontractors for materials, equipment, and services.
Collaborate with internal teams including project managers and junior estimators, to support bid preparation and submission.
Perform site visits and attends bid walks and pre-bid conferences as needed to determine site constraints, logistics, etc.
Maintain working knowledge of each project, including plans, specifications and client expectations.
Coordinate and schedule regular pre-construction meetings with clients and their consultants as needed to maintain schedules.
Review documents, project specifications and architectural drawings to confirm the scope of work and identify any discrepancies to ensure takeoff accuracy.
Participate in estimating transfer meetings for all awarded projects with the construction team.
Responsible for proposal writing, correspondence and technical reports that are consistent, well-written and complete.
Remain informed on industry standards, best practices related to the industry and pricing trends to drive accurate and cost effective estimates.
Generate preliminary pre-construction and construction schedules and coordinating site visits for subcontractors as required.
Our Ideal Candidate:
At least three (3) years of estimating experience in construction, environmental, or a similar industry.
Will thrive in a fast-paced, multi-project environment with high expectations and defined outcomes.
Is a concise communicator who can manage inside and outside of the organization and readily collaborate to navigate complex issues.
Is comfortable sharing opinions about projects as it relates to their estimates.
Must be detail-oriented while also having the ability to work quickly and efficiently.
Ability to manage and generate project estimates for projects ranging from $25,000 up to $5,000,000.
Proficient in MS Office Suite with advanced knowledge of excel.
Knowledge of Cost Estimating Software is preferred.
Ability to read plans and other project documents.
