What’s on the menu?

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the painter is responsible for the safe and proper application of a large variety of coatings on building infrastructure and processing equipment throughout the facility. This individual must be knowledgeable of Kraft Foods painting specifications for walls, ceilings, floor paints and epoxies. They must be able to operate high pressure cleaning and spray-painting equipment involving some sensitive adjustments. In addition, this individual must be able to work from brief verbal and written instructions and perform work with little or no supervision, using skills and judgments that can be achieved only after years of exposure to the job. This person must be available for working on all shifts including weekends and holidays as directed by the needed work when the areas become available. Tuesday through Saturday will be considered normal days of work. Work requires the use of liquid measurement in mixing of coatings. Regularly coordinates the work of part-time help to accomplish work. Work is moderately varied.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for minor repairs to office, cafeteria and conference room furniture, molding, ceiling and floor tile, floor grouting, carpeting, plant safety striping, non-skid pads. Patching of Concrete / Drywall / Flooring is required. Operates tinting equipment for correct tinting equipment coatings to Kraft Foods specifications. Determines approximate usage, proper coatings and orders all painting floor repair materials. Prepares surfaces for painting. Coordinates painting projects that require additional staffing. Responsible for safe, proper mixing, preparation and applications of floor repair epoxies. Assists in the completion of KHMS initiatives or processes. Informs manager of unsafe, damages or worn equipment so appropriate action can be taken. Performs all other duties as directed by the manager.

Sanitation:

Keeps paint storage and work area clean, including period sanitation. Covers equipment in work area to prevent dirt, paint chips and paint from falling on adjacent equipment, requiring added cleaning time. Responsible for insuring sanitation of equipment and area after painting is completed.

Quality:

Follows all plant GMP’s. Responsible for proper surface preparation and application of all coating. Responsible for proper mixing of all paints, ceiling and floor coatings. Takes necessary precautions to prevent paint, paint chips and dirt from contaminating any product or product surface. Coordinates with department supervisor, when working in area, of needed precautions and clean-up procedures to prevent product or product surface contamination.

Equipment Operated:

Responsible for safe and proper operation of high-pressure cleaning and paint spraying equipment. Operates paint chipping tools and air paint spray gun. Responsible for safe use of ladders, sky-lifts and fork trucks. Must demonstrate proficiency in setting up safe scaffolding.

Value of Material:

Errors could cause minor inconvenience, cost and delays. These errors would be readily detectable.

Safety/Lifting Requirements:

Moderate lifting required: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Buddy lifting required over 50 lbs.

Moderate amount of work on ladders and scaffolding. Must understand the hazards and PPE for all chemicals within the scope of the job. Uses proper fall protection procedures when working in elevated areas. Responsible for proper disposal of hazardous materials when necessary.

Working Conditions:

Fair ~ Noise level is above 90 dec. when chipping paint, accompanied by dirt and paint chips. Moderate safety hazards are present from paint and epoxy fumes, working on high ladders, scaffolding, on top of tanks and other hard to reach areas. Handling of hazardous thinning and cleaning solvents. Will be working in all temperatures, outdoors and inside cooler areas as needed.
