SUMMARY

The CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) Programmer is responsible for developing, operating, and maintaining CMM programs to ensure precise measurement and inspection of aerospace components. The role involves collaborating with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to inspect high-precision parts, verify compliance with technical specifications, and maintain strict adherence to aerospace quality standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and implement CMM programs using software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, PolyWorks, Verisurf, SpatialAnalyzer or other relevant platforms to inspect aerospace components based on technical drawings and specifications.

Conduct first-article inspections (FAI), in-process, and final inspections using CMM to verify dimensional accuracy, geometric tolerances, and conformity to aerospace industry standards (AS9100, ISO, etc.).

Document and analyze CMM measurement results, generate detailed inspection reports, and collaborate with quality engineering teams to ensure product conformance.

Ensure CMM equipment is calibrated, maintained, and functioning at optimal levels, adhering to company protocols and safety regulations.

Work closely with engineers, machinists, and quality control teams to provide insights into potential design improvements or process optimizations based on inspection data.

Troubleshoot measurement discrepancies and modify programs or equipment as needed to improve efficiency and accuracy of inspection processes.

Participate in process improvement initiatives, contributing to higher quality standards, reduced defects, and improved inspection workflows.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE

Expertise in programming CMM using PC-DMIS, Calypso, PolyWorks, Verisurf, SpatialAnalyzer or equivalent software.

Complete and thorough understanding of GD&T and its application. (Other programs for licensing or certification could be: CQT, ASQ, CME, CQE, CMM, ISO, ASME, CQI, CALYPSO.)

Complete understanding of 2D prints.

Complete understanding of 3D Models and PMI Data.

Working knowledge of fixturing and fixturing concepts

COMPETENCIES

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve inspection and measurement challenges.

High level of precision and accuracy in inspecting parts to meet rigorous aerospace standards.

Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting inspection findings and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Familiarity with industry standards like AS9100, ISO 9001, and other aerospace quality management systems.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED required.

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical field is preferred.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in CMM programming, preferably within the aerospace or precision manufacturing industry.

Experience working with aerospace-grade materials, advanced inspection techniques, and knowledge of aerospace industry regulatory standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Work Environment will vary from an office environment to a manufacturing floor where there would be exposure to excessive noise.

The regular Physical Demands of the job range from sitting for long periods of time, bending, twisting, repetitive hand use, grasping, pushing and pulling, reaching at waist level and waist to shoulder level, and occasionally may be required to lift parts or tools up to 25-50 pounds.

Shift and Hours: This role may require working on a rotating shift basis, including nights, weekends, and overtime, depending on production schedules. Flexibility is essential.
