Description
The tool maker’s primary purpose is to ensure tools and dies are built, maintained and repaired in a timely fashion. The tool maker reports directly to the tool room foreman for assignment of duties and is expected to track and document all work performed.
Responsibilities for Tool Maker:
Operate tool room equipment safely and efficiently and in accordance with OSHA standards and company procedures
Perform extensive die maintenance such as rebuilding die sections, inserts and forms and engineering changes on all types of dies, fixtures, gages or other tooling needs
Read and understand specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models or descriptions, and visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts, build tooling, and meet customer requirements
Demonstrate good short and long term decision making in these areas:
Press Room troubleshooting
Diagnosis of problem and courses of action
Tool Room machining practices
Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to OSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs, etc.)
Participates in continuous improvement activities
Assumes other duties as directed by management
Qualifications
Qualifications and core skills:
Journeyman die maker or 10 years experience.
Experience in construction and tryout of hard and soft tooling.
Good communications skills.
Knowledge of ISO preferred.
Die try-out practices
General machining practices
