Job Title: Community Coordinator, PreCollege Art and Design Residency Program 2022

General purpose: MICA’s summer PreCollege Art and Design Program is an intensive college-level experience designed to help participants make the leap from thinking like a high school art student to thinking like an artist making art that reflects a new level of skill and personal vision, communicating ideas about art in daily critiques, and building a professional portfolio of work. PreCollege is designed for students ages 15 to 17. The Community Coordinator oversees all residential components of this art and design program.
2025 Program Dates: Staff Move-in: June 21, training June 23, Program June 29 - July 26, Move out July 31, 2025
Summary of Essential Functions
Manages all residential and community aspects of the PreCollege program while living on campus in residence with other program staff and students
Supervise, support and train undergraduate Community Assistants
Be on call throughout the duration of the program, including evenings and weekends and assist with any student needs as they arise
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: This position reports to the Pre-College Program Manager and the Director of Youth Programs in Open Studies. The Assistant Program Coordinator coordinates and manages residential and community needs of the Pre-College Art and Design Residency Program. The residency program will begin June 1, 2025 and run through July 31, 2025. When the program is held on campus, The Community Coordinator is expected to live in residency on campus beginning one week before students arrive and throughout the duration of the program and will be provided housing and a meal plan.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist with the successful implementation of the Pre-College program with the Pre-College Program Coordinator. The variety of tasks associated with this position involve administrative, clerical, physical, organizational and leadership skills
Work with the office of Open Studies, the Pre-College Coordinator and Office of Residence Life to ensure a safe and positive residential experience for Pre-College participants.
Schedule and manage/supervise student staff, the Community Assistants (undergraduate student residential assistants)
Work with both the Academic and Program Coordinators to schedule staff shifts
Serve as liaison between MICA Facilities Management and Pre-College regarding necessary repairs/work orders
When on campus, assign rooms/roommates prior to program start date, manage all activities and staffing for move-in and move-out days.
Model and enforce Pre-College program policies, rules, and regulations
Work with Pre-College Staff to prepare and implement Move in Day and Day 1 Orientation for students
Attend/Schedule/Lead meetings and events as appropriate
Answer questions and manage/resolve issues related to facilities and staffing for the residential aspect of the program
Work with the Community Assistants(Residential Assistants) to develop programs for students during the evenings and weekend hours
Acts as an ambassador for the program when appropriate
Maintain an open line of communication and support for students and their families
Provides supports, interventions, and referrals when appropriate for individual student needs
Supervise and support a team of residential advisors (RAs).
Create and implement residential life policies and procedures tailored to minors.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of residence halls housing high school students.
Serve as the primary on-call staff member for residential emergencies and incidents.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive living environment for students.
Coordinate evening and weekend activities and ensure appropriate supervision.
Collaborate with campus safety, health services, and student affairs as needed.
Conduct regular check-ins with students and staff to monitor well-being.
Handle conflict resolution and behavioral issues in alignment with program guidelines.
Lead staff meetings and provide ongoing training and guidance to RAs.
Communicate with parents/guardians as needed regarding residential concerns.
Maintain accurate records of incidents, room assignments, and student check-ins/outs.
Assist with student move-in, orientation, and move-out processes.
Uphold college policies and ensure compliance with child protection protocols.
Provide end-of-program evaluations and reports related to residential life.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Fine Arts, Art History, Art Education, or Arts Administration
Experience managing college-level staff
High school or college teaching experience preferred
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency
Familiarity with campus resources
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality
Compensation:
$25.00 per hour
