Description:

Make a Difference at Ivans

Digital connectivity is the lifeblood of innovation. At Ivans, a division of Applied, we are at the heart of what is driving innovation across the entire insurance ecosystem. This is just one of the things that makes Ivans such a cool place to work. Making a difference – for the industry and within our team – is what pushes us to do better each day.

Our culture is about more than developing the best technology. It’s about being innovative, investing in our team, creating a customer-centric environment, and setting the industry up for the future.

Position Overview

We’re searching for a Senior Staff Data Engineer to remotely join our IVANS team. This role combines deep data engineering expertise with domain fluency in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance — with a focus on building scalable pipelines, modeling complex insurance datasets, and enabling data classification, governance, and cataloging for high-stakes systems. You'll work closely with our architecture, product, and engineering teams to deliver solutions that power insurance workflows, while ensuring data is clean, traceable, and structured for analytical and operational use.

What You’ll Do

Lead the design and implementation of data classification systems, catalogs, and schema definitions across a range of P&C datasets (policy, claims, billing, eDocs, quote/bind, submissions)

Architect and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines using technologies such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Kubernetes, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow

Support the definition and enforcement of data modeling standards, metadata management, and insurance-specific schema design

Drive best practices for data lineage, quality, security, and governance across our insurance ecosystem

Partner closely with engineering, product, and domain experts to ensure data systems align with real-world insurance workflows, are usable and trusted by stakeholders, and meet strategic business objectives

Collaborate with internal teams on integration with ACORD data standards and canonical insurance models

Own delivery of ETL/ELT pipelines, participate in platform-level architectural design, and mentor teammates on cloud-native data infrastructure

We’re Excited to Learn More About You

Your experience may include:

7+ years in data engineering, data architecture, or enterprise data systems roles

Domain expertise in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance — ideally with experience across policy, claims, or underwriting datasets

Hands-on experience designing data models and schemas for complex insurance data structures

Proficient in SQL and Python for data engineering and automation

Advanced experience with GCP data stack: BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage

Experience building and managing data classification systems and metadata catalogs to support governance, discovery, and lineage

Experience orchestrating ETL/ELT workflows and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Terraform, Helm, Git, and Dataflow templates

You may have other skills or credentials, including:

Familiarity with ACORD data standards and how they map to real-world insurance use cases

Prior experience working in insurance technology platforms, insurtechs, or large P&C carriers

Experience supporting data governance, regulatory compliance, or ISO/NAIC reporting

We know that talent comes from all backgrounds and experience levels. We encourage military members and their spouses as well as candidates without a degree or a background in tech to apply!
