Permanent Custodian
ESS Permanent Custodians are responsible for the repair, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of all district facilities and grounds; their mission is to maintain the schools' physical facilities in a condition of cleanliness and safety.
Responsibilities
Perform all activities that are custodial in nature and deemed appropriate by head custodian/administration before, during, and after school hours and during school vacations
Check and secure building at beginning and end of shift, ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the building; turn on lights at the beginning of the day, turn off lights at the end of the day; set security alarms accordingly if applicable; lock all doors and gates after use at the end of the day
Raise, lower, and properly store the flag
Clean rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas of building according to school district standards
Sweep, mop, buff, strip, and wax floors
Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds
Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, sills, and glass surfaces
Replace light bulbs as needed
Set up and break down chairs, tables, and equipment in cafeteria, meeting rooms, and functional rooms
Assist in maintaining seasonal grounds work (snow, lawn)
Perform grounds-keeping duties, clear litter and debris and maintain grounds
Receive deliveries and assist in unloading trucks and storing supplies
Deliver supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms, and other areas of the building
Empty recycling baskets and wastebaskets, pick up and remove trash, replace trash bags
Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all storage areas
Restock toilet paper, soap dispensers, and hand towels as needed
Understand and adhere to all ESS and school district policies and procedures
Demonstrate cooperation and flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned by school administration and ESS Physical Demands
Stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear
Squat, stoop or kneel, reach with arms above the head, and reach forward
Use hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on ladders
Bend or twist at the neck and trunk
Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as salt and bulk furniture
Push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Qualifications:
Preferred but not Required: High School Diploma/GED
