The Senior Finance Director serves as the chief finance officer and the senior business manager for the School of Continuing Studies (SCS), comprising 13 divisions or departments, more than 20-degree programs, more than 160 professional administrative staff and full- time faculty members, and more than 1,000 part-time adjunct faculty members. The Senior Finance Director, SCS oversees the financial planning and budgeting function for the school, including position budget, resource allocation and business operations in fulfillment of the mission and objectives of the School, and serves as backup to the Chief of Staff for the Human Resource function for staff/AAP and Vice Dean for faculty. Along with other members of the SCS leadership team, this position supports the Dean and other stakeholders in developing the strategic plan for the school and drives the implementation of SCS’s financial strategy and strategic plan. The incumbent will understand and monitor external and internal factors influencing SCS’s mission and goals. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

Serve as a strategic financial and administrative partner to the leadership of SCS and its programs.

Ensure that SCS staff, faculty, and students receive high quality administrative support in a manner compliant with University policies and procedures.

Direct and manage the comprehensive business affairs of the programs, including management and analysis of departmental budgets, information systems, the strategic planning and budgeting for human resource allocation, including the administrative aspects of faculty contracting, hiring, and other position changes.

Serve as a partner to the Chief of Staff for organizational development, including training and development and regulatory compliance.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with SCS leadership and departmental and program staff, as well as with the Office of the Provost, Human Resources, Office of the CFO, and other University offices and departments.

Work Interactions

The Senior Finance Director reports directly to the Dean, SCS and with a dotted line to the Vice President and Chief Business Officer, Main Campus and directly manages 2 positions: Executive Director of SCS Financial Operations and Director of Business Administration, SCS.

The Senior Finance Director works directly with the Office of the Provost, related to academic, financial, and faculty affairs; the Office of the Senior Finance Director, SCS Dean’s Cabinet, working closely with all unit heads across SCS as it relates to financial management, strategy for the school, and compliance matters; Human Resources, related to strategic resource allocation, Legal Counsel, related to the adjunct collective bargaining agreement, international labor laws, international authorizations for program activities, student issues, and review of non-standard revenue generating agreements.

Requirements and Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Business or accounting preferred; A Bachelor’s degree plus substantial experience in closely related fields may substitute for a Master’s degree

Ten years of progressively responsible leadership and supervision in finance and administration, preferably in higher education

Significant experience and strong competence in developing and managing complex budgets and in using electronic financial management tools to track revenue and expenses, generate reports, and perform financial analysis and modeling

Building and utilizing financial models; business analytics expertise

Proficiency with complex financial and longitudinal planning, financial forecasting, and revenue and expenditure management

Expert level of proficiency in Excel with attention to detail

Prior experience managing complex teams with adaptability and flexibility

Demonstrated experience with complex strategic planning and resource allocation

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with a mastery of Excel, Google suite, and zoom

Quick learner around various software systems, including Cognos, Workday, Salesforce, and other key enrollment systems

Well-developed managerial, decision-making, planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and leadership skills

Demonstrated ability to manage complex teams on a day-to-day basis and inspire a high level of commitment and performance

Ability to triage and solve complex challenges and requests with a service oriented, professional demeanor and a team orientation

Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and multi-tasking to meet deadlines

Ability to think outside the box and to solve problems creatively

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, careful judgment and discretion with respect to strategic, confidential, and sensitive material, flexibility and ability to prioritize tasks

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

Prior experience preferred in Workday, Adaptive, and Cognos

Professional Accounting qualifications desirable

Work Mode Designation

This position has been designated as Hybrid with an expectation that the incumbent will be on site 3 days a week. Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:$103,723.00 - $202,778.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
