Purpose: The role of the Enterprise Information Architect is to translate business processes and operations into technology-agnostic data requirements, data assets, and create a blueprint that guides in-house application development, 3rd party application configurations, reporting and analytics. This role will establish an enterprise information management framework and strategically design, develop, and implement data models by business functions and operations. These models shall be architected in the following layers: conceptual, logical, business area, and application. This role acts as the primary advocate of information architecture, data modeling methodologies, and data processing best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Information Architecture Design and Implementation:
Develop and deliver long-term strategic vision, goals and standards for Information Management in conjunction with business functional leaders, clients, and other key stakeholders from IT, Business Intelligence, and other functional departments or teams.
Create and introduce an enterprise information management framework and repeatable methodologies, practices and artifacts for creating comprehensive information architecture and strategy to improve data findability, information flow, data quality, and data usability.
Develop a repository of key data domains, business information entities, and reusable data assets/products with key metadata that describe Bioventus’s Enterprise information landscape.
Design and maintain a robust information architecture that maps the lifecycle of data creation, update, deletion, and utilization (CRUD) across Bioventus business functions and processes.
Identify key business information entities (including master and reference data), data domains, and reusable data assets/products, establishing ownership and stewardship in alignment with business stakeholders.
Establish processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate metadata; take steps to assure metadata accuracy and validity.
Establish methods/procedures to track data quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement.
Conduct data capacity plan, life cycle & duration review, use requirements & feasibility studies.
Create strategies for data security, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and archiving.
Ensure that data strategies and architectures meet regulatory compliance (HIPPA, CCPA, GDPR)
Assess/determine governance, stewardship, and frameworks for managing data across Bioventus.
Develop and promote data management methodologies and standards.
Act as a leader and advocate of data management, including coaching, training, and career development to indirect staff and within other teams and areas.
Enterprise Data Model Design and Implementation:
Establish a data foundation, including design, architecture, and deployment of data models, and collaborate across the organization on governance policies, data quality standards, and security practices.
Translate business requirements into technical data requirements, ensuring taxonomies and ontologies are created in alignment to business operations.
Design Enterprise data model agnostic of technology platform, reverse engineer and document 3rd party application data models (ERP, CRM etc..) while maintaining data dictionaries.
Create and maintain Data Mappings between Enterprise data models and 3rd party application data models. Test the applications to ensure data configurations are aligned to business needs while improving data integrity.
Work closely with internal stakeholders, including functional managers, IT, SAP teams to gather requirements, establish data needs, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Understand and influence technical decisions around data acquisition, collection, storage, transformation, linkage and sharing while working collaboratively with our key partners
Ensure success of enterprise application rollouts (e.g. SAP, Dynamics 365 Sales, Workday, etc.)
Liaise with vendors/service providers to select the products/services that best meet goals.
Select/implement appropriate tools, software, applications, and systems to support data goals.
Oversee the accurate and robust mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality.
Address data problems with systems integration, compatibility, and multiple-platform integration.
Develop and implement key components as needed to create testing criteria to guarantee the fidelity and performance of data architecture.
Document the data architecture and environment to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture.
Education and Experience (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science, data management or a closely related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
10-12 years of experience as an Information or Data Architect; 15 preferred.
Hands-on experience with Information architecture, large-scale data modeling, enterprise architecture, master data management, and business requirements gathering/analysis.
Direct experience in implementing enterprise data management processes, procedures, and decision support.
Strong understanding of relational data structures, theories, principles, and practices.
Strong familiarity with metadata management and associated processes.
Hands-on knowledge of enterprise repository tools, data modeling tools, data mapping tools, and data profiling tools.
Demonstrated expertise with repository creation, and data and information system life cycle methodologies.
Experience with business requirements analysis, entity relationship planning, database design, reporting structures, and so on.
Ability to manage data and metadata migration.
Experience in a manufacturing and/or Life Sciences environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-centric environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
