Police Communications DispatchernnChatham University is seeking a dedicated and professional Police Communications Dispatcher (PCD) to join the Department of Public Safety.

The PCD is responsible for analyzing, prioritizing, and processing incoming calls for service, appropriately dispatching officers, and maintaining radio contact to ensure law enforcement services are delivered safely and efficiently following all required standards.

Dispatchers will engage with several systems to ensure timely and accurate communication that supports the safety and well-being of the Chatham University community.nnThis role is critical to Chatham's commitment to a secure and inclusive campus environment and requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to stay composed under pressure.nnnDuties and Responsibilities:nnDispatch police and security personnel to emergency and routine calls.nReceive and acknowledge all radio transmissions, phone calls, walk-ins, and alarm notifications.nMaintain detailed logs and communication records of all calls for service using the ARMS Computer Aided Dispatch software.nEnsure high-quality customer service through effective communication and timely coordination of dispatch activities.nMonitor and operate all security systems, including CCTV and access control.nMonitor local police radio traffic and notify CUPD officers of adjacent activity.nAccess state and national records systems upon officer request.nReport identified maintenance and life safety issues via internal work order system or telephone notification.nReport safety concerns or unusual activity to the appropriate supervisor.nPerform other duties as assigned.nnnnMinimum Qualifications:nnHigh school diploma or GED.nOne year of experience in emergency dispatch, 911, or public safety communications; Equivalent experience will be considered.nAbility to obtain access to PA CLEAN and FBI/NCIC systems within 30 days of hire.nAbility to complete APCO (Association of Public Safety Communications Officials) certification within one year and remain current in required and ongoing training.nAbility to pass a thorough background check and drug screening.nnnnRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:nnnExcellent verbal and written communication skills.nAbility to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.nStrong typing (40-45 WPM suggested) and familiarity with Microsoft Office.nAbility to evaluate situations independently and make appropriate decisions in accordance with departmental policy.nAbility to multitask, work independently, and collaboratively as part of a teamnReliability and punctuality.nCommitment to acting ethically, legally, and with integrity.nnnnSalary Range: n$41,900,000 - 45,000 annually.n40-hour work week.
