POSITION SUMMARY:
The Linux System Administrator is responsible for the daily administration, support, and continuous improvement of Menard, Inc.’s Linux-based infrastructure. This includes a diverse range of systems supporting core business functions, such as servers, storage, virtualization platforms, automation frameworks, and other critical services. The ideal candidate will have experience operating in mission-critical environments, with a strong focus on availability, performance, and security. This role requires the ability to work effectively in a secure, high-uptime production environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administer and maintain Linux systems across enterprise data centers and remote manufacturing, distribution, and retail environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and availability.
Monitor system health and respond to alerts, incidents, and performance issues in a timely and effective manner.
Leverage automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Salt) to streamline provisioning, patching, and configuration processes.
Perform regular system maintenance including kernel and package updates, vulnerability remediation, and backup validation.
Collaborate with other infrastructure and application teams to support deployment, scaling, and troubleshooting of business-critical services.
Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours incidents when necessary.
Contribute to the design, documentation, and continuous improvement of operational processes and standards.
Ensure compliance with corporate security policies and industry best practices through proactive system hardening, auditing, and access management.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Hands-on experience administering Linux systems in a production environment, preferably in a large enterprise or multi-site setting.
Proficiency with Red Hat and/or SUSE Linux operating systems, including system installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Salt, or similar.
Strong scripting skills in Bash; familiarity with Python or other languages is a plus.
Working knowledge of system monitoring, log analysis, and performance tuning.
Understanding of networking concepts, storage technologies, and virtualization platforms.
Familiarity with enterprise backup solutions and disaster recovery practices.
Ability to work in a secure, compliance-driven environment and follow change control processes.
Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
