Summary:

As an Electrical Engineer, you will be working collaboratively and independently with designers, engineers, and departments who are responsible for the design, support, and manufacturing of Commercial HVAC Products. You will provide technical support, troubleshooting, and engineering change requests to support production. Knowledge of electrical and electronic components, and wiring practices as described by the National Electrical Code is required. HVAC electrical controls experience is desired.

Essential Functions or Responsibilities:

Generate unit-specific HVAC electrical schematics for both production and pre-sales support

Calculate electrical data for dual point power units, FLA, and MOP based on recognized methods

Incumbent will ensure that all information and specifications provided to our internal and external customers will be correct, complete, accurate, clear and concise; and will be presented in a timely manner.

Assist with electrical questions from sales/customers.

Assist with electrical issues/inquiries from Technical Support Department

Aid fellow Engineering team members with BOM questions or discrepancies.

Assist in performing electrical troubleshooting and testing of equipment in production and in product development.

Determine and establish wiring and component installation practices and verify these are communicated on production assembly drawings and other technical support materials where appropriate.

Review and approve deviations from standard practice including electrical component requests regarding compliance with NEC, UL 1995, UL 60335 or other applicable standards.

Generate Lisp routines to automate electrical wiring diagrams (AutoCAD).

May be required to assemble and wire electrical components, controls, and panels for electrical equipment and prototypes.

May be required to test components and circuitry with various gauges, meters, and testing equipment.

Recommend and specify electrical test equipment for use in production and support.

Document all processes utilized to perform Essential Functions by writing work instructions.

Provide recommendations to improve system operation, equipment reliability, maintenance methods, & energy efficiency.

Work with Manufacturing and Process Engineering departments for the creation and maintenance of production documentation.

Interface with management, customer service, clients and other technicians to resolve technical problems.

Maintain a working understanding of applicable industry standards (ASHRAE, AHRI, ANSI, etc.).

Follow good engineering practices and develop practical solutions.

Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Adhere to safety standards at all times.

Qualifications/Skills:

Capable of using common hand tools, Gages, multimeters and hand operated power equipment.

Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Controls Engineering Degree with NEC Certification highly desirable. – OR-

Minimum of a 2-year technical certificate or an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Control systems, HVAC or similar field, or 5 years’ experience in a related field.

The ability to diagnose electrical circuits ranging from 24V AC/DC up to 575V is a plus.

Knowledge & training in electrical hazards, Lockout/Tagout and electrical safety in an industrial setting is preferable.

Knowledge of applicable codes, NFPA 70, standard practices, etc. is a plus.

Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, piping & instrumentation diagrams, mechanical system drawings, building layouts.

Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.

Safety/Physical Requirements:

This position requires the incumbent’s presence onsite in the plant/in the office for a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Incumbent must be able to access manufacturing and assembly areas on the shop floor in order to inspect units, investigate problems and/or potential solutions to problems, and to prove out potential solutions to problems.

Capable of lifting/moving parts weighing 50 lbs. or less.

Must pass background check and drug test.

Requires bending, stooping and standing.

Must be able to stand from six (6) to eight (8) hours pr day. (Overtime may extend the time period.)

Good visual and spatial perception.

Follow established safety policies including, but not limited to, mobile equipment, PPE, emergency response, HAZCOM, first-aid response, etc.

In addition to the above an Electrical Engineer is expected to have the following capabilities and/or experience: Position will be designated Level I, II or III based on qualifications.

Has, at minimum, basic understanding of job technical knowledge.

Capable of performing small to large projects from start to finish with no or minimal supervision, depending on experience and level.

Level I Expectations:

Beginner level or just out of school

0 - 3 years of experience in the job or a closely related function

Has the basic understanding of job technical knowledge.

Capable of performing smaller projects with supervision.

Level II Expectations:

3 - 5 years of experience in the job or a closely related function

Has detailed understanding of job technical knowledge.

Capable of performing small projects with no supervision and medium size projects with some supervision

Capable of performing large projects with supervision

Coaches level I team members to help them improve their skills.

Supervises level I team members on small projects.

Level III Expectations:

5+ years’ experience in the job

Has complete understanding of job technical knowledge.

Capable of performing any size project with little or no supervision

Coaches level I & II team members to help them improve their skills.

Supervises level I & II team members on projects.
