Chimera Investment Corporation is a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) (NYSE: CIM) that is primarily engaged in the business of investing in a diversified portfolio of mortgage assets for itself and for unrelated third parties through its third-party investment management and advisory services. The assets Chimera may invest in and manage for others include residential mortgage loans, Non-Agency RMBS, Agency RMBS, business purpose loans (BPLs) (including residential transition loans (RTLs)) and investor loans, mortgage servicing rights (MSRs) and other real estate-related assets such as Agency CMBS, junior liens and home equity lines of credit, or HELOCs, equity appreciation rights, and reverse mortgages.
Palisades, which is a part of Chimera, is an alternative asset manager in the residential credit markets having managed more than $41.9 billion of loans, real estate, and fixed income securities since its 2012 inception. As of December 31, 2024, Palisades manages mortgage, real estate and fixed income assets that amount to over $22.4 billion in notional balance through a series of separate accounts and discretionary investment funds for globally recognized asset managers, private equity firms, family offices, banks, broker dealers and insurance companies.

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our growing and dynamic team.
As part of the Data Management & Business Intelligence Team, your core responsibilities will include managing and enhancing the in-house enterprise data warehouse, creating data pipelines for 3rd party data providers, troubleshooting the daily data warehouse loading processes, recommending new methods to improve data integration processes and overall data warehouse operations, and building out comprehensive data surveillance tools.
This is a small team, and any candidate must be a team-player, able and willing to work on cross-over projects, able to pick up complex concepts, and communicate effectively to both internal and external constituents. The position will allow the candidate to collaboratively work across the Company’s cross-functional teams (Data Research & Reporting, Trading & Analytics, Asset Management, Capital Markets, Transaction Management, and Collateral Management) and to learn from the firm’s industry-leading professionals. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, a self-starter, have a strong attention to detail, and be able to work under time-sensitive deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Managing and enhancing the Palisades SQL Server based mortgage data warehouse;
Creating and maintaining ETL/SSIS packages along with APIs to bring data from mortgage servicers and vendors into the data warehouse;
Working closely with business teams to transform complex business rules into technical specifications;
Monitoring the daily/month end data warehouse loading processes, promptly resolving issues;
Helping with the performance tuning of SQL Server and the data warehouse;
Helping with data reconciliation of various sources and conforming them in data marts;
Contributing to defining SSAS Tabular Mode/cubes to serve various reporting needs;
Documentation of data logic, methods, key data sets, data flows and processes;
Contribute to modern data platform built on Python, Polars, Spark, DuckDB, and Delta Lake;
Collaborate on data quality checks, validations, and anomaly detection frameworks;
Contribute to the implementation of metadata catalogs, data lineage, and versioned data governance; and
Support on-premise infrastructure and contribute to future-proofing efforts (e.g., cloud-optional designs).
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND SKILLS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience with SQL, Data warehouses, SSIS, SQL Server, cloud databases, and Python.
Excellent understanding of data modelling concepts (Dimensional, Inmon, Kimball, Vault, etc.)
Ability to create, manage, debug, and troubleshoot large ETL jobs in SSIS.
Proven track record in handling large datasets and optimizing queries/performance.
Ability to work with business teams to transform definitions/rules into technical specifications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge and experience with visualization tools and large analytical tools such as Cubes is a plus.
Knowledge and experience with Parquet, Delta Lake, Apache Arrow or other open table formats (e.g. Iceberg) is a plus.
Knowledge and experience with Apache Spark, Pandas, Polars, dbt, DuckDB, or Databricks is a plus.
Exposure to metadata/cataloging systems (e.g., DataHub, Amundsen, or custom solutions).
Experience with version control (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps principles.
