Overview & Responsibilities
Purpose of the Job:
The purpose of this position is to support cost and cycle time reduction projects as assigned while functioning, under supervision, as an individual contributor on a cross-functional team.
This role is intended as an entry-level position, typically but not limited to recent graduates of college or university. The position would develop into an individual capable of facilitating and executing small projects with minimal oversight while learning the tools and methods utilized by the VA/VE team. While supporting these projects the individual would become familiar with Elliott’s organization, various product lines, processes, systems, and tools. The entry-level Value Analysis Engineer will assist with the collection and interpretation of data, metrics, and providing feedback to the teams. These activities shall consider all aspects of the design and production of a product, component or process across Elliott's product lines.
The entry-level VA / VE Engineer will assist in the evaluation process, justification of improvements, and with carrying out the implementation plan, as determined by the assigned lead for the respective projects.
Background and Experience:
1. A bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar discipline is required.
2. Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency, and the ability to work jointly with VA/VE team members to established priorities.
3. Effective time management to complete multiple tasks within specified time frames.
4. Positive, no quit attitude and excitement for driving improvement.
5. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment.
6. Ability to apply problem solving techniques, with process analysis and interpretation of data.
7. Ability to respectfully communicate with all levels of the organization.
8. Ability to understand all aspects of Elliott's product realization processes.
9. Exhibits analytical skills in defect prevention, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
10. Experience with six sigma, lean methodologies, process improvement techniques, etc is considered a benefit, but not required.
11. Prior work experience either at an internship, co-op, or job that was technical in nature is preferred.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
1. Acquire a working understanding of the Elliott organization, various product lines, processes, systems, and tools.
2. Supporting team member of cross-functional process teams as assigned to achieve cost savings and product function improvements.
3. Assist with various projects from conception to implementation under the guidance of lead Value Analysis Engineers.
4. Learn to utilize VA/VE and Six Sigma, lean tools and techniques, or other methods to gather and analyze data, develop action plans and implement solutions to achieve cost savings and product function improvements.
5. Communicate in a professional, positive, courteous manner at all times with all levels of business associates.
6. Prepare reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operations.
7. Perform data analysis and create custom queries and reports.
8. Interpret drawings and manipulate models to identify unnecessary features while maintaining product function
