Responsibilities of the Program Assistant - Resident AdvisorUnder the supervision of the Residential Life Coordinator (department head) and his/her Assistant, the Program Assistant provides immediate residential life oversite and guidance in maters relative to health and safety, discipline, and personal-social problems of all the students attending the South Carolina Governor's School for Agriculture at John de la Howe. Works under limited supervision. Individual is expected to use discretion, tact, and exercise good judgment at all times.
Must exhibit professionalism and effective working relationship when interacting with students, parents/guardians, co-workers, faculty/staff, and a community of stakeholders. Ability to provide visual and auditory supervisor of residents, demonstrate group leadership and organizational skills, be punctual for scheduled shifts and meetings, exercise tact, discretion, and judgement in working with a variety of people, and be in condition suitable for assuming responsibilities for this position.
Provides immediate residential life oversight and guidance in matters pertaining to health and safety, discipline, and personal-social problems. Provides a nurturing and safe environment in the residence halls. Monitors activities and whereabouts of residences. Administer medications. Complete all residential reports, plans, records, and incident reports for the residence hall.
Collects, maintains, and disseminates student data on student success, absenteeism, and discipline. Communicates in a regular and timely manner with the Residential Life Coordinator and/or his/her assistant concerning incidents, problems, and progress.
Participate in trainings, meetings, committees, programs, meet regularly with supervisor, and activity participate in training and professional development.
Reviews the conditions of residential life facilities, equipment and supplies.
Participates in orientation activities for new students, as well as, move-in and move out for all residence hall occupants and room inventories. Assists with appropriate room assignments.
Develop and implements procedures to ensure student safety. Collaborates with campus units to ensure compliance to and with external regulations and laws, including but not limited to DHEC regulations, fi e code regulations, and attendance regulations.
Perform other related duties as required.Start date will be no later than July 14, 2025. This position requires you to work with high school students, parents, teachers, and all agency departments. Agriculture background is a plus.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A High School Diploma, prior experience working with adolescents, a valid drivers license, and must be at least 21 years of age.
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to hear, speak audibly, talk, and lift up to 50lbs.
Must be able to work variable hours and shifts, including some weekends.
Blood Borne Pathogens, First Aid/CPR/ AED training, and other training required with in first six months of employment.
Female staff position- living in female residence hall. Live-in position. Must stay in residence on days scheduled to work. No pets in residence.
Must have a valid drivers license and be willing to drive a state vehicle including a mini bus.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree. Residential life, student services, or boarding school experience highly desired.
