Functional Description:
DDG has begun initial screenings for a Regional Chief Instructor (RCI) to support the College of Distance Education and Training (CDET) Command and Staff Distance Education Program (CSCDEP) for the regional office at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, TX. The CSCDEP RCI is responsible for regional recruiting, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of CSCDEP Adjunct Faculty (AF) to support regional requirements. The RCI is involved in all facets of student education from providing program information to enrollment, teaching, and graduation activities. The RCI provides oversight of seminar execution to ensure high quality educational opportunities in accordance with CDET’s curriculum and policies. The RCI must possess a thorough understanding of Marine Corps and Joint doctrine with previous experience demonstrating a proficiency in MAGTF and Joint planning and operations. Previous experience delivering Socratic seminars to adult learners is also desired.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruit and screen prospective Adjunct Faculty (AF) and submit qualified biographies to the CDET Dean of Academics for verification of qualifications.
Prior to seminar assignment, ensure AF complete Faculty Orientation 101 training and determine AF strengths and weaknesses.
Conduct faculty development (FD) (to include course specific information and instructional methods) with AF in the region, using CDET FD tools and in conjunction with the CDET FD program.
Ensure enrollment of eligible faculty and students into CDET Learning Support System (LSS) courses and provide faculty and students limited basic LSS support.
Teach at least one (1) CSCDEP course (by course number) per academic year (AY). Grade students’ papers, essays, planning products and perform any additional grading requirements as specified in the CDET course close out policies and timelines.
Interact routinely with the CDET CSCDEP associate dean and course subject matter experts/directors to maintain content currency and to assist with AF questions.
Ensure AF grading complies with the CSCDEP faculty handbook and grading rubrics, and ensure all grades are reported through the CDET LSS per CDET Policy.
Monitor Institutional Research (IR) data and reports for the region and brief results to the Regional Director (RD).
Ensure that faculty complete End Of Course (EOC) surveys via the LSS at the end of each seminar course. Encourage maximum student participation in EOC surveys.
Evaluate student and AF end of course feedback and provide feedback and recommendations to the RD and CSCDEP Associate Dean.
In accordance with CDET faculty evaluation policy, conduct visits every AY to seminar locations within the region that have AF-led seminars. Likely travel requirements associated with this task include New Orleans LA and Corpus Christi TX.
Deliver feedback to the RD and CDET Dean of Academics on AF performance, per CDET faculty evaluation policy.
Provide ad hoc reports regarding regional seminars as required by CDET or MCU.
Review and recommend papers for MCU writing awards as required.
Attend the annual CDET Faculty workshop at Quantico VA, which is normally 5 consecutive days in the summer months.
Required Experience:
Experience as a U.S. Marine Corps field grade officer.
Broad MAGTF experience including commanding, executive, or primary staff officer billet(s) at various MSC and MAGTF levels.
Intermediate Level School (ILS) graduate (resident or distance education).
Thorough understanding of Marine Corps foundational doctrine and previous experience demonstrating proficiency in MAGTF and Joint planning and operations.
Faculty experience.
Desired Experience:
School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW) or Top Level School (TLS) graduate.
Previous faculty experience delivering Socratic seminars to adult learners, preferably with military PME programs/courses.
Experience with Learning Support/Management Systems (LSS/LMS, e.g., Moodle)
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college required; Master’s Degree desired in Military, American, European, or Diplomatic History; or in Strategic Studies, International Relations, or related field.
