WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Department of Technology and Business Enterprise Solutions (TEBS) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Information Technology Specialist I to join its Community Technology program team. This team works with the County’s FiberNet team to provide reliable broadband at no charge at selected affordable housing units in Montgomery County. MoCoNet is part of FiberNet, the County’s communications network.
In addition, the Community Technology Team is responsible for administering the Cable Television franchise agreements for the County and participating municipalities, facilitating and coordinating entry of wireless telecommunications providers and resolving issues regarding cable and communications technology for the County.
This position requires frequent interaction with external clients, contractors, and vendors at various levels on multiple projects in a professional and timely manner.
What You'll Be Doing
You will be responsible for the following:
Install, diagnose and troubleshoot technical operations related to MoCoNet
Perform IT support functions for OBP for the effective operation of IT services across the division
Perform and document inspections and complaint investigations related to broadband, cable and IT infrastructure. Report violations for resolution.
Maintain inventory of equipment and maintenance supplies.
Equipment provisioning
Monitoring queues in ServiceNow; route and/or handle tickets as needed to maintain/update status and engage appropriate support resources
Maintain up-to-date information in files and databases
Documenting, updating and maintaining OBP procedures and processes
The ideal candidate must possess communications, problem-solving, technical, and strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of HTML, Service Now, Office 365, Monday.com, Frontline and SharePoint products is recommended.
The position may require work schedule flexibility. You must possess a valid driver’s license. You will possess the ability to multi-task, meet established deadlines and must have the ability to effectively and professionally collaborate and communicate with others. You will perform other related duties as assigned. You will report to the Community Technology Manager. This position will require 100% in office and in the field work. This position will not be eligible for telework.
This position REQUIRES possession of a valid driver's license from applicant's state of residence, and the ability to drive a county vehicle.
A criminal background and credit history check will be conducted on the selected candidate prior to appointment and will be a significant factor in the hiring decision.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: One (1) year of experience in the Information Technology field in such areas as data/telecommunications, networking, and cable or fiber installation.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Physical Abilities: Ability to lift boxes containing computer support items and equipment such as printers, computers, modems, and monitors weighing up to 50 pounds.
License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class “C” (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant’s state of residence.
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following:
3+ years of experience with broadband and or cable installation and or networking
3+ years of customer service experience interacting directly with customers
3+ years of troubleshooting and diagnosing technical issues related to broadband, cable and or telephony.
3+ years as an advanced user of Microsoft Office suite of programs
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
