Description:

The individual in this position is responsible for providing support to our ambulatory equine veterinarians. They will be responsible for preparing medications, sterile/ surgical scrubs, restraining, and maintaining a sanitary and well-organized ambulatory vehicle. Duties include but are not limited to:

Provides support to veterinarians in the delivery of patient care.

Must have a working knowledge of commonly used medications and techniques required within the industry.

Act as a surgical nurse during emergency procedures;

Independently set up and maintains specialized diagnostic equipment such as: (endoscope, ultrasound, digital x-ray.

Clean and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization; operate steam sterilizers.

Driving practice vehicles

Entering medical records

Replenishing stock on ambulatory truck

Assist veterinarian with recording and entering billing and medical records.

Understand and maintain compliance with all HIPAA regulations as they relate to veterinary medicine

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating horses. Applicants with prior veterinary technician experience (formal or work-related) will be given preference. Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

The physical ability to handle, manipulate and restrain large animals

Must be capable of easily lifting at least 50 - 100 pounds on a regular basis.

Must not have any medical conditions which would limit the applicant's ability to bend, crouch or lift or be available for occasional extended work hours.

Must possess the ability to maintain effective working relationships with clinicians, coworkers, students, and clients.

Basic computing skills in word processing and spreadsheets are required.
