Job Summary:
The director of finance oversees the financial operation of the Fraternity, providing leadership and strategic direction across accounting, budgeting, reporting and compliance.
Essential Functions:
Leadership & Supervision:
Supervise and professionally develop the Accounting Manager, Accounting Specialist, and Assistant Director of Collegiate Finance.
Responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the Finance Department, ensuring that tasks are effectively delegated to the right personnel, executed with precision, and completed within established deadlines for optimal efficiency. Lead finance committee initiatives by working closely with the Executive Director and Treasurer to develop a financial strategy that aligns with Delta Gamma’s strategic goals and ensures long-term financial sustainability.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Provide monthly financial reporting package that provides a bullet-point discussion of key financial issues, the status of key performance indicators, financial position, financial activity to date versus budget and forecast, and a statement of cash flows.
Lead the organization through its annual operating and capital budgeting processes.
Deliver departmental reports to department heads, offering clear financial visibility into actual versus budgeted results while facilitating the process of identifying material variances for informed decision-making.
Lead special projects requiring financial expertise.
Accounting Operations:
Oversee deposits, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and cash flow.
Monitor A/R, short-term investments, and house corporation loans.
Maintain and monitor the chart of accounts and investment income allocations.
Compliance & Audit:
Coordinate the annual audit, prepare schedules, and ensure audit readiness.
Review quarterly tax filings, Ohio BWC reports, and use tax submissions.
Serve as plan administrator for 401(k) and oversee profit-sharing plan Census.
Internal Controls & Policy:
Maintain GAAP compliance and establish internal controls.
Ensure retention of financial records and contract reviews.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work with leadership, HR, Housing, Foundation, and IT on shared expenses, chapter finances, and system integrations.
Lead efforts in improving financial processes for collegiate chapters and aligning software tools.
Technology & Systems:
Collaborate on the efficient and effective use, training, and selection of technology and systems required to execute financial and accounting processes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience
Understanding of, or ability to understand through research, nonprofit accounting standards
In depth understanding of accounting software functionality and reporting.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Excellent communication skills and ability to convey financial concepts to non-financial staff and board members
