A Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is required for employment at Gila Community College.Essential Functions
Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate office equipment, machines, and materials. Some whole-body movement such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, carrying objects and handling materials may be required.
Ability to provide effective assistance in a professional manner to College stakeholders in a variety of business environments requiring critical thinking, organization, and the use of interpersonal and communication skills.

Must maintain a level of physical fitness equal to, or above 60%, based upon the Law Enforcement Norms from the Institute of Aerobics Research, Dallas, Texas.

Law Enforcement Training Academy - Recruit Training Officers are expected to perform any or all duties listed below in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
Serve as the Basic Academy Class Supervisor for the Gila Community College Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA).
Act as the liaison with certifying agencies such as Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)Gather and empty trash receptacles.
Serve as a role model for law enforcement trainees, exemplifying/emphasizing the values, ethics, and high standards required of law enforcement professionals.
Support the goals and values of the law enforcement profession and the academy mission; adhere to the Gila Community College Rules and Code of Conduct.
Oversee the day-to-day recruit activities; evaluate and document recruit activities, skills/knowledge acquisition, performance, and progress.
Be responsible for maintaining and issuing discipline for the class consistent with law enforcement standards and code of ethics.
Mentor and provide support for recruits attending the basic law enforcement academy, providing guidance for student success and career counseling.
Schedule and administer the POST Tests, including remediations and re-tests.
Prepare overall recruit performance evaluation for each academy class.
Conduct initial investigations of possible violations of Academy Code of Conduct, Student Rights, and other conduct which may be grounds for removal from the academy training program.
Assist in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of state and local law enforcement programs and courses and assist administrators/faculty in the preparation of curriculum materials and program/course evaluation.
Assist in the certifying, scheduling, arranging, coordinating and record keeping of individual class schedules, and the record keeping of individual course offerings; and assist in the preparation, validation, and review of testing procedures for students.
Networking with law enforcement agencies for recruiting; assist in the recruitment and hiring of recruits in processes for agencies.
Assist with a variety of administrative, operational, educational, and clerical services for the LETA academy, ensuring a clean, safe and professional training environment.
Supervision of day-to-day activities may include: Reviewing incoming correspondence and determining if any action should be initiated or followed up on. Reviewing requests for excused absences and providing a timely response to recruit. Monitoring student injuries for reasonable accommodation and medical follow-up. Assisting instructors as needed. Documenting recruit training and activities. Completing Recruit Evaluations and providing feedback to recruit within a reasonable time period. Maintaining recruit documentation folders, maintaining instructor files, maintaining security of confidential documents, and POST and academy testing materials. Filing recruit correspondence in confidential recruit binders; filing recruit reports of illness in confidential medical binders. Receive and follow-up phone calls from academy students.
Creation of reports as directed by Academy Director and/or Class supervisor.
Maintain equipment and inventory.
Perform similar duties not specifically listed as directed.Qualifications and Education Requirements

Ability to pass a background screening process and obtain or possess a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is necessary.
Previous experience within a law enforcement environment and knowledge of law enforcement practices and procedures.Preferred Skills
Direct law enforcement staff experience.
Familiarity with and understanding of safe work practices particularly when performing general physical activities and handling chemicals or other hazardous materials.Work EnvironmentMajority of duties are performed in or closely around buildings or other enclosed, generally climate-controlled structures. Some learning activities take place outdoors and require moderate to high physical activity. Exposure weapons and moderate to high noise levels is anticipated. Operation of standard office and classroom equipment including computers, copiers, scanners, projection systems, etc. is expected.
