Application Developer (Hybrid)

A regional transportation agency is seeking a part-time Application Developer to support its Traffic Engineering data systems team. The team is responsible for building and maintaining software tools and dashboards that support real-time traffic monitoring, facility operations, and major infrastructure projects such as airport redevelopments and terminal replacements. These tools provide essential data to internal leadership and also feed into navigation platforms like Waze, Google Maps, and Apple Maps.

Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining custom software applications

Writing clean, maintainable code using languages such as Java, Python, C#, and JavaScript

Translating user needs into technical specifications

Participating in application architecture and design discussions

Developing and integrating databases (SQL and NoSQL) into applications

Collaborating with stakeholders, analysts, and project managers to define requirements

Working with APIs and web services (RESTful, SOAP)

Using version control (Git), testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines

Documenting code, systems, and user guides

Supporting deployment and providing ongoing maintenance

Qualifications:

Bachelorâ s degree in computer science or related field

At least 5 years of experience in application development

Experience with at least three projects demonstrating proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, Ruby, or Swift

Experience with relevant frameworks and libraries (e.g., Spring, Django, React, Angular, .NET, Flutter)

Demonstrated knowledge of database management systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Oracle

Familiarity with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines

Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Understanding of UI/UX design principles
