Responsibilities

Histology Technologist

Ensures that tissue specimens are optimally processed, oriented and embedded appropriately (according to tissue type).

Performs routine microtomy with both a high level of speed and quality.

Prepares stains and other reagents for routine staining.

Ensures that all chemical wastes are disposed of in the appropriate manner.

Performs routine daily maintenance on laboratory equipment including proper documentation.

Troubleshoots both mechanical and human errors and malfunctions.

Meets quality control and proficiency testing standards as required by regulatory agencies.

Participates in various CQI monitors and collects data as needed.

Participates in continuing education programs or opportunities.

Stocks supplies, maintains inventory of equipment and supplies following proper procedures.

Ability to perform functions using job-related software and systems.

Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other clinical facilities.

Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients.

Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Histology Technologist:

HT or HTL (ASCP) Certification from an accredited Histology Program OR,

Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or a minimum of 24 semester hours of Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Physics or other related sciences

Pay Range

USD $23.37 - USD $35.06 /Hr.
