Our collaborative partnerships include NASA, private aerospace companies, and major aerospace contractors. We are currently seeking a motivated and hands-on Engineering Technician to support our engineering team with the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and research activities at our Wilsonville, OR location.
Job Summary
The Engineering Technician will play a crucial role in supporting our R&D engineers by operating and maintaining key equipment, assisting with experimental setups, fabricating prototypes, and meticulously documenting procedures and results. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic, hands-on laboratory and workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot 3D printers (FDM, SLA, SLS) and laser cutting equipment.
Perform post-processing of 3D printed parts, including support removal, cleaning, curing, finishing, and detailed inspection.
Set up, run, and document laser cutting/engraving jobs.
Assist engineers in setting up and conducting experiments, including the installation and operation of instrumentation, imaging equipment, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
Perform basic 2D and 3D CAD modeling (e.g., brackets, fixtures, simple parts) and make revisions to existing engineering drawings using SolidWorks, under the direction of the engineering team.
Support prototyping tasks: includes hands-on assembly of components and systems, part modification, and iterative testing based on engineering feedback.
Meticulously document procedures, record experimental data, and maintain organized digital and physical records.
Maintain workshop organization and cleanliness, manage supplies, and ensure equipment maintenance and calibration schedules are followed.
Assist with shipping, receiving, and inventory tracking of parts, components, equipment, and materials.
Collaborate with engineers to identify and implement improvements to fabrication, assembly, and testing processes.
Requirements
Associate's degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, a related field, OR equivalent practical experience (e.g., 2-4 years in a relevant technical role).
Demonstrable experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred for viewing, basic modeling, and modifications).
Proven hands-on experience with 3D printing and prototyping techniques.
Proficiency in mechanical assembly, including the use of common hand tools, power tools, and measurement instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers).
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Good verbal and written communication skills for documenting work and collaborating with the team.
Preferred Experience & Skills
Knowledge of various 3D printing methods, including FDM, SLA/Resin, and SLS.
Proficiency in SolidWorks for basic part design and drawing revisions.
Experience operating and maintaining laser cutting and engraving machines.
Familiarity with setting up and using instrumentation, imaging systems, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
Background in an aerospace, manufacturing, or research laboratory setting.
Experience with sophisticated prototyping techniques and a variety of materials.
Basic understanding of electronics and wiring for assembling test setups.
Experience with workshop safety protocols and hazardous material handling, if applicable.
Additional Requirements
Self-driven, proactive, and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively with minimal supervision once trained.
Enjoys collaborating in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency may be required due to the nature of some projects (e.g., ITAR).
