GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Performs intermediate work assisting with a variety of specialized programs and activities in the active adult center; does related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Active Adult Center Supervisor.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and noise. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
Assisting with the operation and services at the Active Adult Center; planning and supervising activities and participants; preparing and maintaining records and files.
Assists in planning, organizing and implementing general and special recreational and leisure time programs, trips and activities at the Active Adult Center.
Assists with daily operation of classes and activities.
Assists in coordinating center activities in the areas of arts and crafts, socials, fitness, educational, and athletic programs.
Prepares and maintains program and attendance records and reports and other regular and special records and reports.
Assists in supervising the daily maintenance and security of the center, facilities and equipment; reports damages and losses.
Creates flyers and other graphics to promote programs. Serves as Senior Games local Co-coordinator, assists with the planning and implementation of United Senior Games. Instructs Evidence Based Health Promotion programming. Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the principles, rules, materials and equipment requirements of a variety of recreational activities for senior citizens; ability to give routine instructions; general knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation, psychology and sociology, and of personal health and hygiene; general knowledge of the first aid practices and techniques; ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by superiors, and to lead and instruct groups in recreational activities; ability to resolve disputes with firmness and impartiality; ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, and moderate experience in community or group recreation activities with older adults.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of an appropriate commercial driver's license or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment valid in the State of North Carolina.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
