Responsibility:

The Middle School Principal is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools.

General Duties:

The Middle School Principal, under the delegated authority of the Superintendent, is responsible for administering all aspects of a school's operations in alignment with district policies. The Principal plays a pivotal leadership role in fostering the academic growth and overall development of all students within the assigned building

Prime responsibilities include overseeing curriculum implementation, supporting instructional excellence, and addressing the diverse learning needs of students, including those requiring special services. The Principal is also charged with ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Education Reform

A strong commitment to student well-being is essential. The Principal will promote a positive school culture by supporting social-emotional learning (SEL) and implementing practices that help students build resilience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills. This includes fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive both academically and emotionally

The role involves active participation in staffing decisions, including the recommendation of prospective personnel, and the organization of instructional programs and facility use. While the Principal may delegate certain duties to staff, they remain accountable for the performance and outcomes of those under their supervision

The Principal also serves as a liaison between the school and the community, effectively communicating school programs and initiatives to parents and stakeholders

As a member of the district's administrative team, the Principal collaborates closely with the Superintendent and fellow administrators to uphold a high standard of public education. This includes ensuring a safe, respectful, and effective educational environment that supports both the academic and social-emotional development of all students in the Weymouth Public Schools

Specific Duties may include:

Lead the learning and growth of all students and the professional success of all staff by cultivating a shared, student-centered vision that places high-quality teaching and learning at the core of the school's mission

Support the development and implementation of rigorous, standards-based instructional units designed with well-structured lessons, measurable outcomes, and differentiated strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners

Promote instructional practices that reflect high expectations for content mastery and student engagement. Support teaching that is inclusive, personalized, and responsive to varying learning styles, needs, interests, and readiness levels

Oversee the consistent use of formal and informal assessment methods to measure student learning, growth, and understanding. Support instructional adjustments based on data to ensure continuous academic progress for all students

Provide timely, effective supervision and evaluation of staff in accordance with state regulations and contractual agreements to promote professional growth and instructional improvement

Lead the overall organization, administration, and supervision of the school, ensuring smooth daily operations and a safe, effective learning environment

Lead in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding qualified personnel to support the school's mission and instructional goals

Continuously evaluate the instructional program and monitor student growth to ensure high levels of academic achievement

Promote and maintain positive student behavior and oversee student conduct aligned with school expectations and policies

Design and oversee schoolwide schedules, including academic programming, cafeteria use, special services, transportation logistics, and extracurricular activities

Supervise curriculum development and ensure effective implementation of programs of study. Facilitate the adaptation of curriculum to meet individual student needs

Make informed decisions regarding student classification, promotion, and retention in collaboration with staff and families

Develop and recommend an annual building-level budget to the Superintendent and manage programs within the approved financial parameters

Oversee the supervision, evaluation, and assignments of all staff in the building to ensure effective teaching and support services

Ensure compliance with district policies and state regulations in all areas, including attendance, school hours, safety drills, field trips, and extracurricular activities

Foster strong public relations and community engagement to build understanding and support for school programs. This includes organizing meetings, publishing newsletters, and contributing to community communications

Promote partnerships with families, community organizations, and stakeholders to support student learning, well-being, and the overall mission of the school and district

Create a welcoming environment for families and encourage active participation in the school community. Collaborate with families to support student development at home and in school

Engage in regular, two-way, culturally responsive communication with families to keep them informed of student progress and school initiatives. Address concerns with equity, empathy, and effectiveness

Uphold and model high standards of professionalism, respect, and integrity among staff, students, and the community, consistent with the school's mission and core values

Implement and maintain systems, procedures, and protocols that promote a culture of respect, foster staff morale, and support a positive school climate Qualifications:

A Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university

Maintains a valid Massachusetts administrator license for a Middle School Principal

Demonstrated successful experience as a school administrator

Demonstrated ability as an academic leader

Demonstrated ability to solve problems and adjust to changing environments Terms of Employment:

This is a twelve-month position

The successful candidate will be extended a contract with terms contingent on experience and qualifications
