The director has the overall responsibility to plan, develop, and implement systems and processes to support the health system's coding and CDI functions. These responsibilities include assuring these functions are maintained at a high level of accuracy, quality, and timeliness to meet the needs of the health system. The director will have the overall responsibility for the health systems inpatient and outpatient coding and documentation improvement activities including staffing, education, and implementation of new technology. New technology includes leveraging the electronic medical record (EPIC) to enhance outcomes, as well as the development and implementation of 'AI' technologies to identify opportunities and reporting systems to measure and drive performance improvement. The director shall be the primary liaison with medical staff leadership to identify documentation opportunities to support educational programs including supporting a variety of health system medical staff and financial committees. The director shall be the key resource for both executive and medical staff leadership.
Education
Bachelors Degree : Health Information Management or Bachelors of Science in Nursing (Required)
Masters Degree (Preferred)
Combination of relevant education, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Experience
5 years management experience in coding and/or CDI (Required)
Expert knowledge of ICD, DRG, and coding classification systems (Required)
License/Certifications
CCDS - Cert Clin Documentation Spec (Required) or CCS - Certified Coding Specialist (Required) or CPC - Certified Professional Coder (Required) or RHIA - Reg Health Information Admin (Required)
