Outpatient Surgical Coder (Hybrid)

Position Summary:

Harvard Resource Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented and certified Outpatient Surgical Coder to accurately review, analyze, and assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes using established coding guidelines. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant coding for outpatient records to support proper billing and reimbursement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Review and interpret patient medical records to identify appropriate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and E&M codes

Ensure coding practices are consistent with official guidelines and regulatory requirements

Collaborate with clinical and billing teams to resolve coding-related issues or discrepancies

Maintain coding accuracy and productivity benchmarks as defined by the department

Stay updated on changes to coding standards and compliance regulations

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent

Formal training in ICD-10, CPT-4, and evaluation and management coding

Minimum of two (2) years of experience coding outpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and E&M classification systems

Proficient in ICD-10-PCS coding

Licensure/Certification:

Active coding certification required: CPC, COC, CCS, or other applicable certification through AAPC and/or AHIMA

Skills and Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems

High attention to detail with a commitment to coding accuracy

Ability to work independently and meet established productivity goals

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Experience working in a surgical coding background

Must be a certified coder: CPC, COC, CCS, or other applicable certification through AAPC and/or AHIMA
