JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Store Manager helps the Store Manager oversee employees and daily operations at the thrift store, ensuring the facility's productivity and profitability. This position involves coordinating staff assignments, providing training, and fostering a positive atmosphere to enhance team morale.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in training, supervising and coaching store personnel while implementing Store Sales Policies established by the Store Committee and BOD and work rules outlined in the Employee Handbook
Make discipline recommendations to the Store Manager & SDRO/ADRO
Manages departmental structure, development, and proper stocking and rotation of all thrift store merchandise
Maintains proper cash handling and point-of-sale procedures
Plans and manages projects related to departmental functions with the Store Manager
Manages and supports change with direct reports
Respond creatively and effectively to the challenges of running a profitable facility through sales promotions and expense control.
Maintain a pleasant, professional, service-oriented environment by modeling expected behavior for other employees and promoting a sense of teamwork and good morale among the staff
Make reasonable attempts to solve problems arising from customers, volunteers, clients, donors, and staff while utilizing de-escalation skills. Any unresolved problems or policy violations are to be referred to the Store Manager and SDRO/ADRO and/or reported to HR as outlined in the employee handbook
Monitor staffing levels and make recommendations for hiring new employees to the SDRO/ADRO. All offers of employment must have specific authorization by the Senior Director of Retail Operations
Capable of making accurate judgments of acceptable items for resale-based donation acceptance list and current needs of the store
Capable of handling, loading, and unloading donated items and production, including furniture, boxes, bags, pallets, and other miscellaneous large items
Assist the Store Manager with employee reviews and formal coaching expectations
Communicate and represent the interests and needs of the store to the Store Manager
Act as a champion of safety in the workplace, supporting programs, training, and tools that keep employees engaged in safety initiatives, effectively meeting compliance requirements and communicating issues or hazards to Senior leadership
Communicate facility maintenance problems to the Store Manager and Facilities Manager to provide a safe and clean working environment that complies with all state and local building and fire codes
Work with the Safety Manager to implement safety policies through training, reporting safety hazards, and correcting unsafe employee practices
Attend management meetings as scheduled by the Senior Director of Retail Operations/Associate Director of Retail Operations in the Store Manager's absence
Work hand in hand with staff to maximize production efficiencies and promote a spirit of teamwork within the store
Actively contributes to a more equitable and inclusive organization

Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Store Manager
Other Primary Duties – Human Resources & Leadership
Provide Human Resources support and information to directors, managers, and staff
Collaborate with staff on human resource projects and other committees
Assist the Store Manager in payroll preparation – employee scheduling, approving PTO requests, keeping accurate time records, and documentation in accordance with the Attendance Policy. Noting FMLA, Sick time, and reasons for absence or lateness in the timecard
Assist staff with requests and questions regarding Paylocity or applicable HRIS platform
Support efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable organization. Participating in teamwork and collaboration, listening, fostering dialogue, and facilitating joint problem-solving while supporting an inclusive and equitable organization
Adhere to the Safeguarding Policy by ensuring timely completion of mandatory training, staying updated on relevant training modules, and undergoing the necessary background checks to maintain complianceRequirements:

For the safety of the clients SVdP serves and as per the Safeguarding Policy, this position requires successfully completing a criminal background check
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience with Counterpoint or a similar POS system, Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications and typing 55 words per minute is required
Demonstrated success working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Continual learner, willing to seek additional opportunities to gain experience, knowledge and skills. Must manage deadlines well, planning and fulfilling responsibilities with minimal direction
The employee must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen with a safety-sensitive position

Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance and occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs. with assistance from equipment or another person

The working environment of the Thrift stores and Processing Center may contain dust, debris or allergens commonly associated with all manner of pre-owned clothing, furniture and household goods. Certain areas of the facilities are only partially climate-controlled.
