Groundskeeper

Join our team as a Full-time Groundskeeper, where you'll play a vital role in keeping our Viterbo campus and Outdoor Athletic Complex looking their best year-round.

This full-time, first-shift position is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating and maintaining landscaping and snow removal equipment, and contributing to special projects across campus.

Occasional evenings, and weekend hours may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Cuts lawns and related areas.

Trims and edges around sidewalks, parking areas, planting areas, fences, walls, etc.

Prunes shrubs and trees to shape, improve growth, or to remove damaged leaves and branches.

Plants grass seed, flowers, shrubs, and trees.

Waters turf, flowers, and shrubs as needed.

Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides.

Removes weeds from turf, landscape beds, and walkways/patios.

Rake/bags leaves, and grass clippings as needed.

Removes litter from campus grounds and empties all exterior trash receptacles.

Regulates the underground sprinkler system and sets watering schedule.

Also performs minor repairs to irrigation system heads and lines.

Repairs and paints fences, gates, walls, and walks.

Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.

Pressure wash buildings, fences, patios, walkways, dumpster pads, and other structures around campus.

Shovels and plows snow from walks and driveways.

Spreads ice melt on walks and driveways.

Sports field maintenance and other tasks deemed necessary upon completion of prioritized work at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Performs preventative maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on lawn, garden, and snow removal equipment.

Assists with departmental equipment and tool inventory.

Sharpen tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, shears, and mower blades.

Assist maintenance staff with certain tasks when needed.

Perform office moves for faculty and staff.

Carries out other duties as delegated or assigned.

General Requirements/Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum two years related work experience and knowledge in grounds care, snow removal, and light maintenance Must be certified to apply herbicides/insecticides or willing to obtain certification within one year of hire.

Prior knowledge and ability to operate machines such as skid steer, forklift, zero-turn mowers, and other motorized equipment Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record Must possess basic elemental math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, etc.) Basic computer skills, such as email proficiency, are desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk and/or hear.

The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

The employee is expected to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.

This job works in all weather conditions, during all seasons, with most of the time being outdoors.
