Job Description

Basic Purpose

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the advanced management and supervision of lodge and cabin facilities within a state park. This includes direct oversight of complex hospitality operations, strategic planning, staff development, financial management, and the coordination of large-scale guest services to ensure a high-quality and profitable visitor experience.

Typical Functions

The functions performed in this job family will vary by level, unit and organization, but may include the following:

Oversees day-to-day operations and maintenance of lodge and cabin accommodations.

Supervises department heads and staff in hospitality areas such as housekeeping, front desk, and food services.

Ensures compliance with safety, health, and security regulations and standards.

Develops and monitors budgets, procurement, and cost control measures.

Recruits, hires, trains, and coaches staff in hospitality procedures and customer service.

Promotes lodge services and programs through outreach, marketing, and community partnerships.

Solicits conferences, banquets, and special events to increase facility usage and revenue.

Prepares and reviews reports, records, and correspondence related to lodge operations.

Performs other duties as assigned to support park and departmental goals.

Level Descriptor

Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others. At this level, incumbents are responsible for full-scale lodge management within a state park. This includes supervision of operational departments, direct budget responsibility, and implementation of guest service standards in coordination with park leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include: knowledge of hospitality and lodge management practices; business and personnel administration; guest services and customer relations; health and safety standards; inventory management; and financial controls. Ability is required to supervise staff; develop and enforce operating procedures; evaluate operational efficiency; maintain budgets and schedules; use basic computer software such as Word, Excel, Outlook and POS systems; and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a high school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in hospitality services, including two years in a supervisory or management capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of relevant college-level coursework for up to one year of required experience.

Special Requirements

Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and be willing and able to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. Some positions may require statewide travel and the ability to lift or transport light equipment or supplies.
