Long-term contract opportunity Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Fuel Handling Systems Engineer to support our client based in Bellevue, WA.
In this role, you will focus on the design of mechanical fuel handling and process systems for equipment operating within the reactor vessel.
You will serve as a system design engineer for advanced nuclear reactor projects, collaborating with a high-performing team to ensure the successful integration and coordination of interfacing systems.
Key Responsibilities: Design nuclear in-vessel fuel handling systems and equipment, from initial requirements through to final design.
Manage systems, structures, and component-level requirements, ensuring traceability and implementation within our configuration control system, including verification and validation methods.
Identify and apply relevant design codes to plant systems, specifically ASME BPVC, ANS 57.1, NML-1, NUM-1, and BTH-1.
Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system designs.
Collaborate with the design team to create and manage comprehensive drawing packages, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and system or equipment interface drawings.
Provide technical direction and oversight for supplier projects, ensuring timely delivery of data and other deliverables, while coordinating and performing technical reviews.
Originate and review technical design documents, such as System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, Engineering Design Specifications, and design change requests.
Support design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are established and refined.
Key Qualifications and Skills: Education: B.S.
degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related STEM discipline is preferred.
M.S.
and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience, respectively.
Experience: A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience in the design of complex mechanical systems, structures, and equipment.
Previous experience with nuclear technology, including fuel handling equipment and/or reactor internals design, is preferred.
Proficiency in 2D and/or 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section III or Section VIII code is desired.
Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
Experience with quality standards in design and procurement activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001, is preferred but not required.
Ability to thrive in an evolving project and management structure, demonstrating trust, integrity, and a commitment to teamwork.
