PLANT OPERATIONS COORDINATOR
Job Summary
Oversees building maintenance at Sacred Heart Major Seminary (SHMS). Perform basic plumbing, electrical and equipment repairs and perform other maintenance activities.
Duties/Responsibilities
Report daily to the Associate Director of Building Administration to coordinate the maintenance and operation of facilities.
Help oversee and monitor physical plant facilities and systems to ensure good performance and integrity. Complete daily work assignments requested by Building Administration.
Help assess, trouble-shoot and correct issues with mechanical systems by reading blueprints of electrical, plumbing & HVAC layouts of entire campus.
Supervise (internal) maintenance staff in the absence of Associate Director of Building Administration.
Supervise and assist (outside) contractors with maintenance and repairs.
Monitor safety protocols as outlined by the Michigan Catholic Conference and as well as City, State and Federal guidelines.
Monitor building lighting throughout campus to help ensure safety and security.
Occasional repairs on residential washers & dryers, commercial kitchen ovens & dishwashers as well as work on door locks, keys and door closing accessories.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Daily with internal maintenance staff
Routinely with outside contractors.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Good oral and written communication skills. MS Office and computer skills a plus.
Strong customer service skills, being cooperative, adaptable and dependable.
Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time while paying attention to details.
Must be willing to work on a flexible schedule, including occasional emergency calls and nights and weekends.
Education and Experience Desired
High school diploma or GED required. Driver’s License required.
Associate’s degree or specialized boiler / trade certificates in building maintenance a plus, but minimum 5 year’s trade experience preferred in building maintenance (including, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repair).
Knowledge of residential laundry equipment and commercial kitchen equipment repair a big plus, as well as that of commercial door locks, keys and mechanisms.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and walk throughout physical plant, including occasional outside work and work in attics and tunnels.
Work may involve prolonged sitting at a desk with repetitive motion working on a computer and also standing, bending, kneeling, lifting and walking.
Travel Required
Not applicable, but must have transportation to get to work when needed.
