The Fine Arts Team at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) is seeking a Part-time, .50fte, Choir Teacher. The purpose of the Fine Arts Program at IMSA is to enable each student to develop a fundamental knowledge of the aesthetic, intellectual, emotional, cultural, and social aspects of artistic perception, valuing, creation, interpretation and evaluation. Students are challenged to explore the content and meaning of the arts beyond facts, symbolic representation and technical proficiency. Through study of the natural and expressive elements of the arts, students understand feelings at a deeper level and connect the emotive and cognitive aspects of learning.
This position fulfills the requirement for DFI (Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois) Fellows following completion of their academic program.
The internationally recognized Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) develops creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As a teaching and learning laboratory created by the State of Illinois, IMSA enrolls academically talented Illinois students (grades 10–12) in its advanced, residential college preparatory program. It also serves thousands of educators and students in Illinois and beyond through innovative instructional programs that foster imagination and inquiry.
This position will support IMSA's Equity and Excellence work by ensuring the delivery of quality, equitable, and inclusive support while promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that embraces the diversity of people and perspectives collaborating at IMSA to ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition. The Chief Business and Operations Officer is instrumental in devising strategies to fund necessary support programs to ensure students from Culturally, Linguistically, and Economically Diverse (CLED) backgrounds are successful.
Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ability to teach/direct the Chamber and Concert Choirs
Ability to teach Music Theory and Music Appreciation
Perform office responsibilities for the Music Department, i.e. music filing, program formatting and library duties
Guide and tutor students outside of class
Participate in the team’s curriculum and assessment development process
Participate in all department and faculty meetings, faculty development programs, and community development days
Participate in non-teaching activities that support the department’s programs
Integrate technology into instruction
Other duties as assigned
The Choir teacher will also receive an annual stipend to include the following activities:
Solo/Ensemble competitions
ILMEA music festival
The Little Ten Music Festival
Evening concerts
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of a Master’s degree in related field.
Experience and comfort with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
An exemplary teaching record.
Effective communication with students, staff, and parents.
Active participation in a collaborative team environment.
Engagement in reflective professional practice.
Highly motivated, results-oriented individual.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work in a fast-paced team environment with ability to function diplomatically and effectively at all levels.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This role requires the following physical activities: speaking for extended periods of time, singning for extended periods of time, hearing and visual acuity, and mobility. However, reasonable accommodations, including assistive technology, may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform such requirements.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This position is a part-time, exempt, 10-month, employment-at-will position. Salary regionally commensurate with training and experience in like-institutions. Rates can be found in the Faculty CBA. As tis is a part-time position, amounts in CBA will be prorated. IMSA offers a comprehensive state benefits package (major medical, dental, vision, and prescription) with rates found here, a generous paid time off plan, and a retirement plan through the State University Retirement System (SURS). SURS is reciprocal with other Illinois public retirement systems such as the Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) and the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
