The Student Activities Associate will provide leadership and serve as the primary coordinator for campus-wide, student-centered, education and social activity programs that promote the development of the whole student. The student activities programs contribute significantly to the intentional living and learning environment by enhancing student skills, decision-making abilities, and character development. The Associate works with students and staff to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate social and recreational programs, both on and off-campus for the IMSA community. This position is also responsible for the overall aspects of student activities outside the classroom.

The internationally recognized Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) develops creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As a teaching and learning laboratory created by the State of Illinois, IMSA enrolls academically talented Illinois students (grades 10–12) in its advanced, residential college preparatory program. It also serves thousands of educators and students in Illinois and beyond through innovative instructional programs that foster imagination and inquiry.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide leadership and implement a wide range of student activities and programs that promote student growth, involvement in learning and engagements in campus life.

Develop students’ abilities in planning programs through trainings, in-services, and regular interactions.

Work with student leaders to coordinate major student-oriented campus events including Carnival, Homecoming, Clash of the Halls and Prom.

Co-Advise Student Council with the Coordinator of Leadership and Service, including elections, club chartering, and budget management

Advise Campus Activities Board, work with student leaders to organize and market campus wide programming.

Work collaboratively with facilities coordinator, student organization advisors, resident counselors and students to keep an updated calendar of activities on campus, assist students with the preparation and planning of events, and oversee appropriate supervision of student events.

Work collaboratively with the residential staff to promote educational programming for the development of all students. Provide support for programming within the residential life team.

Work collaboratively with other departments on campus to ensure a variety of student activity opportunities.

Attend and supervise events.

Advise class clubs, provide guidance for fundraising for Prom, and provide leadership to Resident Counselor class club liaisons.

Supervise all student organizations and provide training and guidance for club advisors.

Develop and monitor the budget for student activities, including prioritizing and approving requests for funding.

Oversee fund-raising activities proposed by student groups with input from the Coordinator of Leadership and Service and Coordinator of Athletics and Co-curricular Activities.

Assess programming and revise efforts based on student feedback and current trends.

Provide support for Student Affairs procurement processes and maintain programming budget for Student Affairs Department.

Monitor use of bulletin boards, signs, and showcases.

Actively further the Academy’s Equity and Excellence policy by supporting culturally, linguistically, economically diverse students.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Ability to operate a mini-bus

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:The required skills and experience for this position include, but are not limited to:

Bachelor’s degree

Experience working with adolescents

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential

Commitment to students and colleagues from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds

Strong results-oriented organizational skills with attention to details

Strong interpersonal skills in relating to multiple audiences including students, parents, and educators

Proficiency with computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and database management is required

Available for travel

SALARY AND BENEFITS:This position is a full-time, exempt, 10-month plus 10 day, employment-at-will position. Salary regionally commensurate with training and experience in like-institutions with a range of $46,900 to $62,500. IMSA offers a comprehensive state benefits package (major medical, dental, vision, and prescription) with rates found here, a generous paid time off plan, and a retirement plan through the State University Retirement System (SURS). SURS is reciprocal with other Illinois public retirement systems such as the Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) and the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
