The Inspector Operator will inspect, troubleshoot, and perform switching operations on all electric substation, transmission, and distribution facilities; reports switching orders and reporting abnormalities in real time to the Electric System Operator. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reduce outage minutes by responding to electric transmission and distribution outages on a 24/7 basis and

performing inspections for preventative maintenance in order to reduce the total number and severity of outages. Additionally, act as a liaison and advisor to contractor and customer owned devices as well as other equipment. Responsible for maintaining records of and instructing relevant staff on all new distribution equipment including distribution automation equipment.

In emergency situations reports to TVA transmission operator to perform switching operations and assess equipment on Bulk Electric System at the 500KV level. Meets with contractors and commercial customers in regard to their privately owned electric equipment. Performs switching operations for other departments to perform maintenance, repairs, and installations. Performs protective grounding orders for relevant crews to perform maintenance and repairs. Assess and troubleshoot facilities during outages to the system operator and performs remedial action as directed. Perform tests to collect electric current data with a hot stick and high voltage gloves during abnormal operation. Racking in/out of cubical breakers in metal clad switchgear. Instructs other departments on the use and operation of new or seldom switched distribution equipment. Assess equipment and facilities after substation break-ins and acts as a safety barrier for security personnel and the first on scene to coordinate with the fire Department. Perform other duties as directed.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

A valid driver's license from state of residence is required.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in electrical distribution/construction is preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Must successfully pass Switching Test, complete Placement/Performance Exercises, and have knowledge of Basic Electricity. Must be able to distinguish

colors. Subject to 24-hour call. Must have occupationally significant knowledge of substation numbering system, transmission and distribution equipment

functionality, knowledge of distribution automation equipment, and established grounding procedures. Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds or more of force on a regular basis.
