About the Position
We are looking for a mechanical, electrical, or critical facilities engineer with five or more years of experience in engineering to join a highly technical group responsible for maintaining Jane Street’s rapidly scaling monitoring infrastructure of our offices, data centers, and colocation sites.
The ideal candidate will have a facilities engineering background and the ability to automate and script to help us streamline our workflows and systems. While some prior experience with scripting or programming is required, we welcome candidates who are eager to further develop these skills.
Our team is collaborative in nature, spanning many internal departments and external vendors, contractors, and operations teams. Your specific work will cover all of our physical deployments and several complex monitoring solutions supported by various third parties and internal teams.
Additional responsibilities of the role will include:
Helping to develop and maintain our monitoring and alerting systems, including adding new monitoring points, editing existing ones, and creating or modifying alarm logic to ensure comprehensive coverage and minimal noise
Implementing new monitoring points in a proprietary monitoring system from BMS systems and mission-critical mechanical or electrical systems
Participating in the design and architecture of monitoring system implementations to ensure they are robust, intuitive, and scalable across a global and ever-growing portfolio
Collaborating with software engineers to develop systems for our Facilities Engineering team's specific domain needs
Engaging in team discussions to collaboratively address system challenges, propose solutions, and implement changes that improve monitoring efficacy and user experience
Analyzing existing monitoring scopes to identify gaps in alerting logic and potential optimizations, considering complex dependencies, standardized naming, and organizational conventions
Helping us scale systems and processes to enhance efficiency, streamline routine tasks, maintain system accuracy, and reduce implementation time and toil
Developing tools and utilities that empower the Facilities Engineering team to take proactive measures
We are looking for someone who works well alone and on a team, manages time exceptionally well, and has proven able to deliver no matter the task. To thrive in this role, you will also need strong logical reasoning, problem-solving, and collaboration skills – and must be able to make good judgment calls with the data and reasoning to back them up.
About You

Experienced with developing and maintaining scripts or tools using Bash, Python, or a similar language
Strong analytical thinker with the ability to tackle complex logic problems and optimize existing processes
Detail-oriented and precise with monitoring, alerting, and data management tasks
Have a demonstrated ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions
Excellent verbal and written communicator
Enjoy a highly collaborative and team-oriented culture that values open communication and shared decision-making
Have an ownership mindset over your projects, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently
Feel a strong sense of responsibility for maintaining system integrity and data accuracy
Intellectually curious with a desire to continuously learn and improve
Mechanical, electrical, or other relevant engineering degree is required
Familiarity with database management and data manipulation is a plus
