Hydrant/Hose Tester & General Laborer

The City of Valdez Fire Department is seeking an individual to perform testing on fire hoses, fire hydrants, and perform skilled and unskilled labor to complete assigned projects. This position is under general supervision of career Fire Staff.

This is a temporary, non-benefited position working up to 37.5 hours per week from June through August/September. Position is open until filled, review of applicants begins May 27, 2024.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Test fire hydrants and fire hoses

Perform skilled and unskilled labor to complete assigned projects

Knowledge, skills, and other characteristics:

Must have general knowledge of the layout of Valdez

Must be able to locate hydrants as detailed in mapping

Ability to use both hand and power tools properly

Ability to work independently

Physical requirements and work environment:

Work is preformed predominately out of doors

Must be able to lift 75 pounds repetitively

Minimum qualifications:

Must be a minimum of 18 years old

Must have valid Alaska Drivers license
