Position Description
The Seattle Municipal Court's (SMC) mission is to provide a forum for people to resolve alleged violations of the law in a respectful, independent, and impartial manner. The Court is dedicated to advancing social justice issues by supporting personal, structural, and systemic change in our community, and building a diverse workforce. The Court works collaboratively to realize the City's vision of racial equity by participating in the City of Seattle's Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI). SMC is a highly innovative and progressive court with a community-based approach to judicial administration.
The Infractions Division is a unit of Court Operations. The Courtroom Support team has two primary functions: courtroom customer service and case preparation, which take place behind the scenes providing administrative support to the Magistrates by preparing documents for scheduled hearings.
The Magistrate Operations team is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for one, full-time Court Administrative Specialist position (AS1). Job Responsibilities
Administrative Support
Perform clerical support tasks such as completing reports, scanning, photocopying, filing, and archiving court documents.
Monitor supply inventory, order supplies, and help maintain department printers and copiers.
Assist in training other court employees and actively participate in meetings/events.
Process incoming paperwork and electronic documents
Issue subpoenas for contested infraction hearings,
Schedule hearings in the Court's case management system(C Track )and electronically collect and process information for court calendars
Database Administration
Accurately maintain and update court docket and customer information in the Court's case management system.
Process waivers of Contested Settlement Hearings.
Apply court policies and procedures, city and state codes,and other regulations.
Customer Service
Provide general court information to citizens regarding Court functions.
Identify, research, and resolve customer complaints and document errors
Provide a high-level of customer service to diverse citizens and defendants, to include requesting interpreters when needed.
Be an active listener and utilize good communication skills.
Check customers in and out of infraction hearings in the courtroom. (Some hearings are in person; most are via telephone (WebEx).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1+ year of clerical support experience, which includes intermediate technical skills with Microsoft Office.

Salary
The full salary range for this role is $31.93 - $36.92 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $31.93 hourly. Current City employees starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.
Work Environment
This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their manager.

A job offer is contingent upon successfully passing the court's background check. The background check includes a criminal history background review, fingerprinting, and reference checks.
