Position Overview

The College Access Mentor will work directly with the founder of VoiceUp Publishing Inc. to support high school juniors and seniors in their college preparation, application, and transition journey. This role focuses on empowering students to discover their academic passions, navigate the college application process, and develop the skills needed for collegiate success.

Position Details

- **Type:** Remote (100% virtual)

- **Schedule:** Flexible hours

- **Duration:** One academic semester

- **Compensation:** Academic credit available or volunteer basis

- **Recognition:** Letter of support from the founder upon completion

Key Responsibilities

**Individual Student Support**

- Provide one-on-one mentoring to assigned high school juniors and seniors

- Guide students through college research and selection process

- Assist with college application timelines and requirements

- Support students in essay brainstorming and revision

- Help students understand financial aid and scholarship opportunities

- Guide students through FAFSA completion and verification

- Provide emotional support and encouragement throughout the process

**College Preparation Guidance**

- Help students develop strong academic profiles

- Guide standardized test preparation strategies

- Assist with extracurricular activity planning

- Support students in identifying potential majors and career paths

- Help students understand college admission requirements

- Guide summer program and enrichment opportunity research

- Assist with scholarship search and application processes

**Workshop Facilitation**

- Lead virtual college preparation workshops

- Facilitate group discussions on college-related topics

- Create and present informational sessions for parents

- Develop engaging content for college readiness programs

- Host Q&A sessions about college life and transitions

- Coordinate virtual college tours and information sessions

- Facilitate peer support groups for college-bound students

**Documentation and Tracking**

- Maintain detailed records of student interactions and progress

- Track application deadlines and submission status

- Document student achievements and milestones

- Create progress reports for program evaluation

- Monitor student engagement and participation

- Track acceptance rates and scholarship awards

- Compile success stories and testimonials

Required Qualifications

- Current college junior/senior or recent graduate

- Strong understanding of college application process

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Experience with virtual collaboration tools

- Demonstrated ability to connect with high school students

- Knowledge of financial aid and scholarship processes

- Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous mentoring or tutoring experience

- Familiarity with college admissions trends

- Experience with college essay review

- Knowledge of standardized testing requirements

- Background in education or counseling

- Multilingual abilities

- Experience with first-generation college students
