Position Summary

OWNCS 3 Elementary School, located in Corona, Queens and opening in August 2022, is seeking dynamic, talented teachers to provide exemplary instructional practices, work hard to meet the high-accountability demands and close achievement gaps. Our ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of OWNCS, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents, and a desire for working in a school setting that fosters a love for children.

Responsibilities

The ENL teacher provides students (K-5) with a safe and healthy learning environment that will nurture, motivate and challenge all children to achieve the highest level of academic excellence

Support with the identification of ENL services

Ensure that OWNCS is in compliance with the requirements and regulations relating to English Language Learners

Coordinate the case management system of students who are being provided with ENL services

Coordinate the testing and assessment programs for students who qualify for ENL services

Conduct NYSITELL and NYSESLAT assessments

Learn new content and skills in order to best support students

Collaborate with colleagues in developing purposeful, rigorous, and engaging daily and long-term plans aligned to standards, and supporting classroom teachers to include language scaffolds in daily instruction

Create, administer, and analyze meaningful and frequent assessments from which reteaches are planned

Maintain the necessary records of student progress toward academic goals

Develop and implement push-in and pull-out lessons that scaffold ENL students towards grade level expectations

Modify ELA instruction to provide additional support to ENL students

Provide the differentiation and accommodations needed for the growth and success of all students

Lead small-group work with students to build language acquisition

Review and comply with guidelines of students’ IEPs, attend IEP meetings, follow IDEA reporting requirements, and provide information about student performance and services received

Communication and Collaboration

Provide consultation, trainings, and support to colleagues in work with ENL students

Keep families well-informed of student performance and progress

Participate in meetings, designated school functions outside of school hours, and opportunities for individual and school-wide professional development

Supervise out of classroom settings such as arrival, transitions, lunch, recess, dismissal, and field trips

Support the school’s philosophy that values continuous learning for adults tied to student learning and other school goals.

Use multiple sources of data collection to analyze barriers to student achievement and to access, identify and apply to instructional improvement.

Provide opportunities for the community to be involved in student and school success.Required Education and Skills

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or related discipline from US accredited university or college.

Knowledge of NY State Learning Standards

Must have appropriate credentials as designated by New York State Education Department and in accordance with definitions and requirements to be designated a highly qualified and certified teacher as defined by NCLB.

Must be authorized to work at OWN Charter Schools through appropriate NYSED fingerprint clearance.

Must demonstrate competency in all areas of content responsibility and be computer literate.

Must be able to:

Communicate through superior written and oral communications skills.

Exhibit a high caliber of expertise in subject matter.

Work on multiple projects and respond to requests and deadlines in an accurate, timely manner.

Make sound decisions within the parameters of authority.

Be courteous, professional and tactful at all times.

Maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, board members, parents, students, authorizer and community.

Pay

$61,070 + depending on experience
