JOB SUMMARY

The School of Design + Art in the College of Business, Innovation, Leadership, and Technology (BILT) at Marymount University invites applications from persons qualified to teach undergraduate Ceramics for hand building and wheel throwing techniques beginning in the fall 2024 semester. Projects in both courses revolve around traditional vessel construction, and faculty will provide supplementary information regarding contemporary artists, ceramic materials, glazing, and the firing process. Adjunct faculty will be expected to aid in organizing student work for bisque and glaze firings in a computerized electric kiln, and manage other small tasks associated with studio maintenance.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach designated courses, face-to-face, including keeping teaching materials current, interacting with students in discussions and hands-on activities, the continuous grading of assignments, and monitoring student performance through the courses.

Maintain ceramics studio and facilities, including loading and firing electric kilns, and providing clay and other production materials for class.

Coordinate with Fine Arts faculty to maintain material inventory and firing schedules.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Master of Fine Arts degree is required with a minimum of 18 graduate credits directly related to the teaching field.

Five years of professional experience in the field is preferred.

Experience teaching in higher education or with adult learnings is preferred.
