HCMC was the first hospital in Minnesota verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level I Trauma Center. The Emergency Department is the busiest in the state with more than 97,000 visits annually. Board certified Emergency Medicine physicians provide 24-hour coverage and outstate emergency consultation. Additionally, the 4 ED Stabilization Rooms provide the highest level of acute critical care to patients with a wide variety of problems. Hennepin Healthcare's Emergency Department includes the care we have provided to critically ill and injured children as a Level I Trauma Center, a designation we have held since 1989 and reinforced in 2010 with our verification as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. This separate pediatric verification recognizes our distinctive expertise in caring for children in emergency situations.
