Principal Technical Safety Engineer

Role Overview

We currently have an opportunity for a Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join our team in Aberdeen on a full-time permanent basis. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) aspects of the design within the project scope are maintained to the relevant acceptable standards and comply with applicable legislation.

In addition, you will execute and monitor Safety Engineering activities as part of the UK Safety Engineering discipline, ensuring that the design is in accordance with the applicable standards and legislation.

You will be:

Ensuring the provision of technical assurance across the technical safety (DHSE) including loss prevention activities and deliverables on projects

Leading and coordinating the activities and deliverables allocated to the location in accordance with the project schedule

Gathering & compiling process safety and environmental information. Preparing Safety Engineering Plans, Philosophies and Basis of Design documents

Executing Hazard Studies

Undertaking Technical Safety Reviews such as Human factors, Hazardous Area Classification, Inherent Safety, Alarm Prioritisation, etc.

Recommending where any additional Technical Safety reviews are necessary because of scope change, design development, etc.

Checking that all required Technical Safety Reviews are completed

At the end of each project phase, ensuring that all lists, files reports, etc. are filed correctly, ready for input to the next project phase

Acting as the Technical Safety SME on the project work package, supporting the Lead Safety Engineer, project management and engineering disciplines with design HSE concerns and queries

supporting other Worley offices with requests for Technical Safety assistance on an Ad-Hoc basis and supporting ad-hoc requests for discrete Technical Safety activities across multiple projects.

You will have:

Chemical Engineering Degree or equivalent

Extensive and demonstrable experience in a similar technical safety (DHSE) role covering all design stages of a typical project lifecycle.

Solid experience in the use of industry standard software relevant to the role.

Greenfield and Brownfield design experience preferably covering onshore/offshore projects.

A passion for learning and in turn coaching early career engineers in areas of your own expertise

It would be great if you also had:

Experience with new energy projects which may include CCUS, Hydrogen, battery materials, etc.

Master’s degree in safety related discipline (Loss prevention, Safety and Risk)

Functional Safety qualifications. e.g. TuV FS Eng
